This costume was my pride and joy. I adore Fai, absolutely love him. And making this costume was my first real sewing endeavor. I had made costumes before but nothing this detailed.The whole costume is handsewn. I cut the trim into strips myself and the design on the back is all hand applique. The staff is a combination of wood, pipe, model magic, plastic and fish bowl stones.
This is probably my favorite picture of this costume ever, and I've worn this costume for 3 years now.

You can make it cheap if you use cotton fabric which is the cheapest kind and use a very thin fur. This costume was not cheap to make at all though because I used very nice quality stuff to do it. But you can modify a coat pattern to create it.

Model magic is a very light air drying clay. Very useful for small accessories or props.

Yes I am going to Otakon. I think I'll have one version of fai with me and then I have a couple other outfits I know I am definitely wearing. My schedule is still kind of undecided though.

Question, how did you do the jewel on the staff? It looks really clear.

It is a blue template plastic that I found at a fabric store. Its used for creating templates for quilts. I then cut out the pieces and glued them together and covered it with the iridescent basket wrap that shrinks when you heat it so that it kind of reflects the light.
