Zash had lost so much blood in the delivery his skin was pale and he was shivering despite blankets covering him. Shota couldnt help but notice zashs breathing was quick and shallow too, "will….he be ok….?" Shota was holding the newborn. "He wasnt built to have a child...no man is...so i cant say my lord…" shota sat the little one in the cradle and used his foot to rock it. "How often do women live...in this condition…" the midwife stood to leave, "you dont want to know…" she left them alone.
A few hours went by with no improvement. Shota was constantly changing the sheet under Zash so he wouldnt have to lay in his own blood. Shota had a wet nurse feed the newborn every other hour as he cared for Zash.
The vizier came quietly into the room where shota was watching over zash. "How is he..?" The vizier got no response from shota. He sighed, "your father has passed….just moments ago…" shota gave a single nod in acknowledgement. "If you need anything...sir...youre the new Pharoah now...and im here to serve…" he left the dimly lit room just as quietly as he entered. Shota felt numb, but a single tear managed to leave his eye. It was quiet...too quiet with a newborn around. "Maybe we're so quiet….because we dont want the reaper to find us yet…." shota thought holding zashs freezing hands, "maybe i should be louder…" He kissed zashs face, "because i should be first…" he said aloud, the first spoken words he had said for a while.
A new day came and went. They buried the old pharoah without shota. He elected to stay with zash and the little one instead. He tried to enjoy the baby holding him whenever he could and laying him next to Zash here and there hoping it would help. Finally, when the next night came shota was tired and laid next to zash in the bed. He put the little one on his chest and closed his eyes to rest a while.
Upon waking the little one was off his chest. He panicked and jumped up scanning the room seeing zash holding the wrapped newborn to his chest. "Youre…" "nursing? I know shhh hes almost asleep again." Zash smiled facing shota. The sun reflected a bright comforting glow and shota completely broke down. Zash came over to him and sat on the bed, "shota...im sorry...i didnt mean to worry you…" shota grabbed him and held him tight, "i thought i was going to lose you….i lost father...i thought i would be alone…" "not completely…" the baby cooed and shota wiped off his face, "i would have been incomplete then…" zash kissed his forehead, "what shall we name him?" The new Pharoah thought for just a moment, "Baraka...." "for blessing?" They looked at the little one who just faintly had a smile and it was decided right then and there they would be Baraka.
