Koyuki was born in Naples, Italy to Takahiro Ishikawa, a Japanese thief, and Alessandra De Luca, former leader of the De Luca family. She was taught at an early age the art of thievery and how to handle certain weapons, such as a whip, gun, etc. However, around the age of eight, her parents were murdered by the De Luca family, the mafia family her mother left to marry her father secretly. There was no proof that Koyuki existed. Important family heirlooms, such as, a snow flake silver necklace (housing Boreas's dagger) and rings, pictures and documents (Social Security card, Birth Certificate, etc., were packed in her backpack and sent off with her when she was forced to leave the house.
She grew up on the streets of Italy, finding shelter in an empty warehouse, stealing food and even clothes. She was smart though, usually leaving no trace that she was even there for four years.
She was recruited into the Varia when she was finally apprehended by police and taken in for questioning. There, she met the future leader of the Varia. He claimed he was her long-lost sibling and that he had been looking for her since 'their' parents' deaths. The police were hesitant let her go. But with a little persuasion, they let her go and she was then tested various times with different situations and mission objectives, before becoming the Varia's official thief and information gatherer at age 12.
At age 14, she received a special mission to obtain any/all information on the Vongola X guardians. She was flown to Japan, with accommodations, and began her undercover assignment.
Xanxus bought her one-bedroom apartment as living arrangements while she is in Japan. Her apartment was decorated by Lussuria himself, as her mother figure wanted to make sure his 'princess' is living well.
