Description Oil on canvas. 18"x24".

A larger more detailed version of my previous tiny 5"x7" "Moonchild" painting which wasn't photographed very well, either.

Inspired by the song of the same title by King Crimson.

Beautiful use of light, pretty Moonchild, and very good interpretation of the song.

The song it was inspired by has a sort of ancient fairy tale tone to it.

I can see why this particular piece has had so many comments and views, It's wonderfully composed and like many of your other pieces there is a lot of detail and ideas to digest.Β  The delicateness of the webs and the water that cascades off the water fountain into those beautifully reflective pools are wonderful.Β  I really love this.

Thank you! I'm a surrealist by nature but I love landscape painting as well. I especially like depicting the seasons.
Β I go back and forth between both worlds.
Β Plus, the more I paint the better at it I get. I'm getting more patient and willing to put more time and concentration into each painting.
My love of music helps, too.

Thank you. Originally, I was just going to have the 'moonchild' dancing or strolling along but by fortunate circumstance I happened upon this old copy I made a long time ago from some obscure photo. It was a perfect foil for the moon illuminating her garment.

Thanks! I'm flattered.
It was originally going to be a slightly smaller painting at first with the 'moonchild' more close up. Then I listened to "Moonchild" before painting it without skipping over the spacey psychedelic part afterwards. It inspired me to paint a larger landscape with more imagery in it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

4ScarfAce4 In reply to Tolkyes [2013-05-19 19:31:01 +0000 UTC]

I've always thought that the end part of the song was like a glimpse into the Moonchild's mind. That may have something to do with the fact that when I first heard it, it was late at night and I was alone in a darkened room in a house I didn't know very well. It gave me a most enjoyable attack of the creeps, and I'm still glad that I was able to hear it for the first time under those circumstances.

Yes, I'm often influenced by the circumstances, time of the day, temperature outside, etc. when I hear a song for the first time. Especially in the past when I was younger and more impressionable.

Totally beautiful subject, colors & execution. I'm also glad that it isn't based on the novel by Aleister Crowley, which was absolutely self-serving crap.
