Description

I finished reading Wicked, and was really struck by her character–she really ended up being a kind of tragic byronic heroine, with her whole arc about fate vs. free will via Madame Morrible’s “enchantment” and how she just kind of grew into being even more of a pariah than she already was, and embraced that haughtily even while longing for validation :0

Never enough of the bookverse Elphaba on DA.  Maguires story is classic tragedy with such a flawed main character such as Elphaba. Very nice interpretation of her.

ELPHABA YES

I need to re-read this... I read it in middle school I think and just remember being so in love with it!
They're making a movie for the musical I think? And I'm really excited! Of course I still want to see the live performance when I can, but I hope the movie does justice as well hhhhh

But anyway, beautiful work here and a nice triangular composition!

thank you! I had a really distinct impression of her from the book, and also I just love that she fits the Byronic Hero, usually an archetype reserved for male characters, pretty much perfectly. ("passionate beliefs that run contrary to mainstream society?" Check. "Fearless and volatile in their actions and behaviour?" Check. "personal philosophy that will not be changed for anyone?" Check. "Cerebral and brooding with romanticized internal conflict, struggling over her own beliefs" check Check CHECK.) I really loved the worldbuilding of the book! Haven't watched the musical although it seems oddly much more lighter and softer than the book, which is really odd (but definitely some great music there!)

Yes she's amazing and the Wizard of Oz was one of my favorite books as a child so to have it so restructured and thrown about but still somehow maintain the nostalgia hhhh idk I just really love the book and need to re-read it one of these days. //add it to a list |D

Oh yeah, from what I've seen, the musical is definitely lighter and less dense, but still worth seeing! The music is amazing.

I need to reread the original Wizard of Oz book as well! It's such a great classic story just on its own (and a distinctly American kind of fairy tale too!)

Very cool drawing and unique style! You can really tell a story from this, especially given her expression. Well done!
