Description LATE NIGHT DEVIATION: 1:40 a.m. Merry Christmas Adam to y'all!

This pic is sort of double-symbolic, first depicting the dedication of the Statue of Liberty on 1886, a belated birthday gift from France to America, even if the actual, um, building/restoration took much longer, and secondly how France was crucial in helping the U.S. win his (I always catch myself referring to countries with "he" or "she" now *facepalm*) independence in the Revolutionary war, which was another way he sort of "gave" him the gift of Liberty. Now Alfred has someone to answer the door when the immigrants come knocking

I based their outfits on the Wikipedia descriptions of fashion during the 1880s, but basically kept their color schemes the same. Liberty is green and has the 7-pointed crown because, well, that's how we're sort of used to seeing her as, and she can look like anything now, really, since there have been about a ton of different interpretations of her, usually in a rather, um, neglectful state of where her robes are...just ask Delacroix. XD The equivalent for the other countries I guess would be England and Mama Britannia (Haaaiiil Britannia! Britannia rules the waves!) And France and Marianne [link] (of whom I have just found out about.)

i was thinking the Statue of Liberty, but now I'm not really sure! When I painted this a couple years ago I had *just* gotten into Hetalia for about a month, so i don' tknow if I knew about the nyotalia characters yet

I love the concept of this sooooo much, I actualy thought of drawing something similair though not nessesarily with hetalia since when I draw my own works I prefer putting original characters.

Very nice! I really like the historical outfits on France and America. The poses are very nicely done as well. Why does Lady Liberty have shackles on her feet, though? Is it symbolic?

Yes it is; Liberty is supposed to have broken shackles on her feet to symbolize coming out of bondage. I haven't actually seen her feet, so I don't know about the actual statue, but I think it's a nice touch

Pretty, but of course historically, until WWII the Statue of Liberty wasn't seen as a symbol of Liberty but as a symbol of the Friendship between France and the USA.

Ah, true XD...though I did sort of read somewhere that the design was based somewhat off Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, as well, although I haven't really been able to find much supporting evidence, just a lot of speculation.
