Just pencil and paper. I did put the images together on one "sheet" via Photoshop though.

what kind of pencil? i thought it was hard to scan pencil drawings

No, pencil drawings scan great- especially these days. The scanners have gotten cheaper and better than ever. BUT, you do need to take the raw scan into Photoshop and push the levels (contrast, etc.) to get the best scan. In Photoshop, I can make the linework darker than the original or black when it was originally a light blue.
