Childhood: Rei was also known as Princess Hideko Chikanatsu in the Land of Earth. The Chikanatsu clan was famous their fire style matsering jutsu and the Fenikkusugan which means "The Eye of the Phoenix". Also Rei was also the heir of the clan and every heir of the Chikanatsu clan is inherited with wings made of orange chakra. Rei was only 3 years old when she lived as her life as Hideko. Until One night in June, the Chikanatsu was set on fire and burned to the ground. The whole clan did not survive except for the heir who finally was able to grow orange wings and use them as a shield when parts of the castle came falling down on her. After the intruders came what they wanted, they retreated. The Chikanatsu Castle was gone. Everyone was dead. In the morning a ninja known as Kakashi Hatake came to investigate the Chikanatsu clan and see if there were any survivors. Then, he heard the sound of a little girl crying coming from under a pile of broken stuff from the building. As soon as Kakashi dug up the pile, his eyes were amazed to see wings from the girl's back. "Are you alright?" Kakashi asked. As soon as Rei lifted her head up, her wings disappered. Their were tears flowing down her cheeks. Then Kakashi reached opened his arms up to Rei and said "It's alright. You don't have to be afraid anymore." Then Rei ran into Kakashi's arms and cried. After that, Kakashi took Rei back to the Hidden Leaf Village. When Kakashi and Rei arrived at the Hidden Leaf Village, he took her to the Hokage Mansion for the Fourth Hokage to take a look at her. After Kakashi told the Fourth Hokage what happened at the Chikanatsu Castle, the Fourth Hokage decided that Rei should live here in the Hidden Leaf Village and left her in Kakashi's care. The Fourth Hokage thought it would be a good idea for the princess to change her name, so he said to Rei, "How about Rei Asahara? Do you like that name?" Rei smiled and agreed. Then the Fourth Hokage smiled at her and patted her on the head. After all that Rei has been living with Kakashi as her guardian and training to be a ninja ever since.
