Now that sounds fun. Β Exploring a jungle. Β We don't really have those here. Β How'd you get so close to this little guy?

TomFawls In reply to helopilotoh58 [2014-08-04 13:39:36 +0000 UTC]

I was about 7 or 8 feet away...that's shot with the 400mm lens. Β

and it is a jungle, but not like a WILD jungle; it's more like a city park. Well groomed pathways and so many people around.

So you stalked from afar...lol

Oh so it's not like the middle of the Amazon wild...gotcha. Β

TomFawls In reply to helopilotoh58 [2014-08-05 05:42:46 +0000 UTC]

well...I didn't actually see him until I got too close to him and he jumped from a branch about 6 inches from me...scared the hell out of me!Β After that, he kept me at a distance. Every time I moved closer, he'd move away.

So yeah, I guess I was stalking him.

helopilotoh58 In reply to TomFawls [2014-08-05 12:26:53 +0000 UTC]

Good camo on him then if you didn't see him so close to you. Β We have little blue tailed skinks here, fast little buggers, and not horribly common. Β Outside of snakes thats the only reptiles we have.

I suspect you've got a lot of reptiles who work in DC living in Northern VA.Β

lol...I heard they can grow to a fairly substantial size. This guy was pretty small, but with the long lens, I was able to get 4 or 5 good shots (out of 95 or 100 shots taken ).

I've never had nine at any one time; 5 was the most (or was it 6? ). Β And you're right, they do have their own ways of doing things.

I used to have a cat who loved the snow and cold and during the Winters (in Upstate NY) she'd stay out for a day or two (or more) at a time and hunt for some of the barn cats and stray cats in the area. We rented a house on a large farm, so we were surrounded by fields and pastures and woods.Β

I understand that. And I know Ovid; I've driven through there a number of times.Β  We were in Newark Valley, then Port Crane; down closer to Binghamton.

and yeah, cats are surprising animals.

I was working in Binghamton starting in late 1986. I lived in Gilbertsville, a small town farther North and East of Binghamton. Great place, good time.

My wife lived in Mobile for a time while I was in the Army stationed at Fort Rucker, AL. We were dating then and I drove those back roads more times than I can count.

Dark, narrow, no lines...dangerous as hell; but truly a rush driving them at 80, 90 or faster. Out driving your headlights and praying nothing was in the way.

Well...I did get all four wheels off the ground one night when I forgot about a set of railroad tracks on a raised berm just after a 90 degree turn that I took at waaayyy too high a rate of speed. I was doing about 65 or 70 when I hit the tracks...landing was fun for me; but didn't make the car too happy.

yeah...I hadn't had but three beers in the three pears preceding the trip to Singapore, but drank more than that two or three times a week for most of the trip.

Spent a lot of money that I probably shouldn't have...but beers were $15 / pint at the places my colleagues liked to drink, sooooo....
