Description Snow covered Western New York landscape. With an old farm house and red barn draped in snow, this image is perfect as a Christmas / Holiday background.

Day three of November's four day snowstorm. I'd forgotten just how beautiful snow can be.

You're welcome. I occasionally camp in the Tug Hill Plateau... in summer. I can't imagine the place in a deep winter.

Actually, this image was early Winter - mid-November...and that snow was completely melted one week later.Β

Of course, it started back snowing by early December and we had snow on the ground until late April.Β

Gotta love Buffalo weather.

YeeeeUP!!!Β  That be home all right!! Β  Love the photo Tom...shows what true winter is like in western NY. Β Β
Then again, I thought it was cold THERE until I moved to Fairbanks. Buffalo area has NOTHING on Fairbanks, that's for sure!
Especially when I worked outside on aircraft at minus 70 degrees with NO wind. Β  Anyway, nice shot!Β

Thank you for the kind words, Laskanwolf.

When I was a pilot in the Army (and much younger), I thought I wanted to be stationed in Alaska, but now, as a late-middle-aged arthritic, the cold is not nearly as attractive as it once was.

My home is now in Florida, but I'm here in Buffalo for a while to help out with some family issues.

You're very welcome Tom and thank you so much for the watch buddy!

My hometown is Lockport (up in Niagara County) and I was in high school during the Blizzard of '77.Β  We got BURIED!! It was really bad.
I left in '79 for the Air Force and have lived at all kinds of places, including Florida (MacDill AFB there in Tampa...which is where I retired from)
My parents still have a home on Lake Ontario, but live half the year in Sebring, FL.Β  I was just there for Thanksgiving.Β  I live in Spokane now.
Take care!Β

Ahhh...my parents live in Clarence, just a few miles down the road. They live right behind Eastern Hills Mall. .Β  I'm staying in Alden.

I, too was in HS for the Blizzard of 77; a senior. I grew my first beard during the 5 days we had off during that storm.

I've lived a lot of places, as well, including Korea (1 year), Germany (7 to 9 months out of the year for 4 years), Binghamton, Singapore (6 months), Fort Rucker (Alabama - 4.5 years) and now Orlando / Alden.

Have never been to Spokane, but did spend some time TDY at Ft. Lewis, WA back in the mid-80s. I love Seattle (but NOT the Seahawks!Β  Still a Bills fan. ).

You take care, too.

Oh yes, I know Clarence and that whole area quite well. Also where that Colgan Air Q400 crashed too.

My first duty station was at Ramstein Air Base in Germany (79-82)...loved it over there! Β  And I've
been by Ft Rucker many times, since my wife is from Alabama and her parents and siblings live in the
Montgomery area.

I graduated from Embry-Riddle with a BS in Professional Aeronautics in 1998, got my Private Pilots license
in 1999, and then retired as a MSgt tanker crew chief after 21 years active in 2000. Got hired by Air Wisconsin
Airlines within 2 weeks, worked for them for 7 years until I got hired as an Aviation Safety Inspector for the FAA,
which is what I do now and have been for over 7 years. That pretty much sums up MY aviation career.
Now my middle son (26) is a SSgt in the Air Force and stationed over in Italy.

Bills ALMOST made it to the playoffs, but no cigar once again. Β  Christ!Β  15 years now. Pathetic!
But I'll never jump off that bandwagon...I'll be a Bills fan for life, no matter what.

The crash was only a few miles from my parents' house; another minute and the plan would have hit their neighborhood.

I've never actually been to Ramstein, although I worked for a short time as a defense contractor at Hannau Army Air Field, near Frankfurt. I was part of the team installing the Army's Blackhawk and Apache flight simulators. I was a flight instructor for a while (Huey "contact" phase) at Rucker - I went kicking and screaming (in my head; outwardly, it was "Yes, Sir!") into the IPC (Instructor Pilot Course), but found I really liked teaching...even when the students were trying to kill me.

I was an ROTC graduate; getting my BS in Accounting and my commission as an RA 2LT in 1981.Β  I went through the Benning School for Boys (otherwise known as Infantry Officer Basic Course) and then right to flight school. I became a combat aviation officer when Aviation once again became a branch in 1983.Β  Resigned as a Captain in 1986 after realizing the peacetime politics on active duty were not for me.

I, too am a Bills fan for life (hey, you've gotta root for your home team!)...and yeah, it is painful to watch them take themselves out of the running year after year, after year.

I went to the spot where that crash happened a year or so afterwards.
So glad your parents and their neighborhood were spared that awful
tragedy. Β  I've been involved with about ten aircraft accidents and
four involved single or multiple fatalities...it wasn't pretty, trust me.

Looks like you've had quite a career involving aviation too...that's awesome!

Have a great upcoming week Tom.

I can't imagine what those accident scenes are like and how hard it must beΒ  to go through the wreckage like you guys do. I have the utmost respect for what it is you do. The good that has come from and the deaths that have been presented by what you investigators learn is immeasurable.

I haven't flown since 1987...and haven't worked the training systems since 1997, but one of these days I will get current again.

You have a great week, too.
