Harper's Ferry WV is the old cross roads of this country. Where a nation began part of it's east west movement as well as north and south and was a strategic location in the Civil War. For those on the AT it is the half-way point for through hikers. After registering their status on the trail, hikers pass Jefferson Rock on their way to the historic lower town and north into MD and eventually into PA.
