Description
This painting is based on the scene in the movie Rome - Open City (Citta Aperta).Pina (Anna Magnani) sees her fiancee' Franchesco being detained by the Germans. She breaks through detainment runs towards the lorry when she is shot and killed by machine gun fire. The local bishop who was to marry them, Don Luigi (Aldo Fabrizi) rushes to Pina only to discover that she was dead.
Roberto Rosselini shoots this scene without going to a close-up but at mid range.
The look provides an image similar to Michelangelo's Pieta.
