Description Constructed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1907, Central of Georgia 223 was one of 25 such 2-8-0 “Consolidation” types that made up the COG’s Roster. Upon entering service the Engine sported the Number 1223 which was later shortened to its current 223 number. In 1952 the Engine was reassigned to the Wrightsville and Tennille Railroad which was a subsidiary of the COG. For the last three years of its working life the 223 was put to work on their little line which connected Tennille, Georgia to Wrightsville until 1955 when it was put on static display in Columbus. Later it was moved to the former Savannah and Atlanta Passenger Station in Savannah before the Georgia State Railroad Museum acquired it. It has since been restored back to its as built COG Paint Job. Video from my Savannah visit in 2024: youtu.be/Wy4L-r6fzlg
