Description Finished this today, feb, 21, 2011.

I put a lot of layers into this, (almost to many)
is airbrush acrylic 18x24 in, on watercolor paper.
all the black in the chrome is brush in, the purple color is createx transparent on top of silver base. the actual work is a grape color, not the blue you probably see on your monitor. i puy extra time into the chrome and it paid off.

i think im over my slump!

the painting is a much darker shade, the dark colors always show reflectons better. hopeing to get a better camera soon. i saw your last atc looked good the one with the snail and the skull. i got my cards but havent hade the chance to realy do any yet.

It's disappointing that things never come across through the computer the way that you see them in person but at least it's still flattering! I love all the reflections you work into the mirrored and chrome surfaces.
Thanks for the compliment on my new card... it's sort of a successful failure. Acrylics and I are still struggling to find a common ground. Not as much definition and contrast as I would have liked but there is always next time.
Still looking forward to seeing your cards! Take your time but be warned, you may find them infuriating at first but that’s soon replaced with addiction.

it's super frustrating! i diddent think i was going to have to become a photographer, but wen you start to take your work seriously i guess you have to. all i have now is a kodak point and shoot, it does well for what it is but a new camera is a must for me at this point.

everybody likes the reflections, thinking of doing a peace with the reflections as the focal point.

acrylics can be a mess. i never got good with them till i put them in an airbrush. im a train wreck with a paintbrush

well i did do one atc, but i havent posted it. i wasent happy with it
and the second was a compleat fail. like you said (always next time)
i think i will post the one atc i did, its good to post things your not happy with somtimes.

It’s difficult not to appreciate the reflections; they bring the artwork to life.

The main reason I was determined to teach myself acrylics is because they have always kicked my ass. I’ll use them at least until the tubes of paint run out from the set that I bought last year. I try to keep my mediums to quick dry lest I end up with paint tracked all over the house.

It is good to post things that you aren’t happy with sometimes; it helps to gain new perspective. Also you can always take it down in the future. Excellent first card!

i can understand the quick dry. i make a big enough mess with waterbase stuff,

i think it's good for artists to show thay strugle. it shows how much work it is to come up with quality peaces, i talk to some teenagers on DA and thay are so impatiant with the quality of thair work. and most of them are a lot better than i was at thair age.

i think i may add a fail folder in my gallery. haha!
thanks for the compliment on the card.

the only question i have right now is, what brand of paint are you useing for auto app's. do you use a mid coat clear? whatever i use it needs to be a pre mixed (style) airbrush paint. i have shot single stage and laquer paint but even with heavy wet coats thay need wet sanding and buffing. i may not be thinning them enogh.

let me do it this way.

what brand ready to spray (auto) airbrush paint do you recomend?

what type clearcoat do you use?

can thay be used over most auto finishes?

think that will do it, no rush i wont be buying any new paint for a couple months, thanks-

For most of the cars I've painted recently, I've been using Summit Racing's new line of custom paint. They have both a single stage urethane and a traditional two stage urethane. The single stage is about half the cost (about $90 a gallon) and it's awesome paint. I use all House of Kolor for my airbrush work. House of Kolor custom automotive paint is a true base coat / clear coat urethane. House of Kolor is pretty expensive. Just as a comparison to the Summit Racing brand, a gallon of HOK usually starts at $300 vs. $90 for SR'g. Check out Coast Airbrush ([link] ), The Kustom Shop ([link] ), and Summit Racing ([link] )

I use House of Kolor for my airbrush work because I can buy it in small 2oz or 4oz bottles which makes it affordable.

As far as clear coat goes, it depends on what I'm doing but I try to stay with the same manufacturer as the base coat paint I just sprayed. What ever paint you chose, it can be sprayed over any auto finish as long as it's fully curred. An existing factory finish would be an example of a fully curred finish. All you have to do (if there's no body work needed) is scuff the surface with a red Scotch-Brite pad and start spraying!

I know that was a lot, sorry. Digest it and ask any other questions you want!

Jerry

no that wasent to much, i probably know more than i admit but, one cant ask to many questions, i will check out the summit paint the price sounds great! i painted my car with laquer this fall becouse i diddent have the cash for the urethane, it would have been $600+ in urethane, was $130 for the laquer, laquer was just more work, wet sand and buff.

i will hit you back with some more later. thanks man.
