Description Pteranodontoid pterodactyl Guidraco venator the "hunting ghost-dragon" rivals Dracorex hogwartsia as the archosaur which sounds the most like it was named by a seven year old.

In any case, it's quite the charismatic and interesting looking pterosaur.

Done as the February entry for the Hell Creek collaborative calender ([link] ).
Painted digitally with WACOM tablet in Photoshop Elements. Not bad for my second legit attempt at the medium, but there are a few things I need to work on.

Heh... the name was coined by Alex Kellner, Corwin Sullivan and myself at Mao Mao Chongs (an AWESOME Beijing pizza-bar run by expat Aussies) while waiting for pizza one evening in late 2010. Alex wanted the -draco suffix and was toying with ideas - I suggested "Gui" (malevolent spirit/ghost) which had previously been used in the Silurian fish Guiyu - Alex loved how it rolled of the tongue and added it to the list of suggestions, scribbled on a napkin.

Well no doubt it does roll off the tongue, and has a nice ring to it. My statement in the artist's comments was just a light-hearted jab, it's a pretty neat name.

ooh, I love the colors you used. I never would have thought of those, did you get the idea off an existing animal or create it yourself?

Thanks, no colour references for this one, I just pulled the idea out of my head.

Well it's Awesome.

But there is one thing I don't understand and it's sorta off subject, but I really need to know it and you seem to be well informed in the matter.

"What is all this hubbub about those who believe in feathered dinos and the fans of JP or those in general who like featherless scaly dinos better?"

I love dinos, don't get me wrong but I always figured it was a point of view subject. Now I know that Rapters had feathers and that the popular JP rapters are all wrong as well as those half-arsed as you call them. But is one really better? It's just like Star Wars vs Star Trek, you may not be a fan of either but you must know of the murderous hate the two fans bases have for each other, when their just stories and if you like one or the other is a matter of opinion. True, when it comes to rapters one is the reality and one is fake but is it really a base to hate somebody or to fight somebody over. Why can't both be accepted; one real one fake, but both cool.

I dunno, please just don't kill me for saying all this but you seem to be a big part of the Feather Nazi revolution and I was hoping you could give me a reason as to why people are risking getting banned from DA over an argument of weather rapters were feathered or not. I love rapters both ways and I admit that rapters were feathered but I just don't understand either side of the argument. And in addition to the fact that I'm going to be posting a fictional rapter spises for one of my fantasy stories that is sorta in the middle of both sides of the argument I would like to know if I'm going to me murdered in my sleep or not.

You might be better off posting this on the FeatherNazi's profile page and get a range of opinions.

I might be one of the less helpful sources because I don't really care that much. My concern is with educating the public on what dinosaurs were actually like, not on telling people weather or not they are allowed to like Jurassic Park Pseudosaurs. I'll try to go through your comment and respond to what I can though.

"I love dinos, don't get me wrong but I always figured it was a point of view subject. Now I know that Rapters had feathers and that the popular JP rapters are all wrong as well as those half-arsed as you call them. But is one really better?"

Depends what you mean by "better". One is definitely better as a reconstruction of a dromaeosaur. One is probably better as a movie monster. I'm sure you know which is which. Half-arse are just good for nothing though.

"Star Wars vs Star Trek, you may not be a fan of either but you must know of the murderous hate the two fans bases have for each other"

I'm not a fan of either, nor was I aware there was a fan base war between the two.

"True, when it comes to rapters one is the reality and one is fake but is it really a base to hate somebody or to fight somebody over. Why can't both be accepted; one real one fake, but both cool. "

One is reality and one is fake. That's as far as my opinion stretches. Don't overlap them and I don't care.

"I dunno, please just don't kill me for saying all this but you seem to be a big part of the Feather Nazi revolution and I was hoping you could give me a reason as to why people are risking getting banned from DA over an argument of weather rapters were feathered or not."

No, I can't give you an answer beyond this: I'm sure if you looked up who was doing the arguing on both sides, you find that 80% plus are teenage boys. Teenage boys like to fight. They will fight. Over anything. This is one of those things. That's my explanation.
