Description I drew this when I was 19 or 20 years old (I'm 60 now). I think it's a 1964. Was the last freehand thing I ever did.

Blue ball point pen on paper. Drawn from a photo.

Normally my work appears in the Fractal Gallery here (more than 250 images - many available in print form).

Thought it would be fun to post!

!! This is my mother's Supra Grand Prix? Though hers was more roomy, 4-door?, and had a surround stereo system with acoustics like being in a grand concert hall. It was that weird metallic blue. And it FLEW like the wind!!!! I had just gotten my driver's license, and Mom was crazy enough (well I was a trustworthy teen) to let me drive it a lot, to cruise Main, doing the loop and further out ... sometimes all the way into Sacramento... a much bigger loop to get lost in.

What a mind trip that you drew it around the time I was driving it! What a coincidence! And s at my h.s. peer.

Far out!!! Did it belong to you?

Such coincidences. Gotta luv'm.

Though we later named Mom's car Christine, like the movie. My eldest niece got Mom's car when Mom bought a new one. My niece cointinued to drive it until the late 90s. But it was haunted. Damned gas pedal would lock "on" for no reason... and there we'd be, tearing down the street, trying to steer it away from cars, trees, people, while reaching down to UNstick (more like RIP UP) the gas pedal. Happened to me several times.

Worst was when my niece and her mother (my elder sister) were camping in the mountains of Utah. My niece started up the car to hear to turn on the lights and to hear the weather, but the pedal locked "on" even when she hadn't touched it. The car immediately tried to mow down my sister while also trying to take my niece and itself over the edge of the cliff! Scary that!

Btw, great drawing! Sorry for going bezerk on you.

Sorry, I thought I replied earlier.

Wow! Must have been a really spookie car. My brother had a '61 Pontiac Sport Coupe with 5 speed floor shift and the Trophy engine with tri-power (3 carbs). I drove it on a prom date with the hood off! It was a beautiful car!

I can imagine what a fantastic date that must have been, and the car. I rode in quite a few fab cars on dates or with bfs in those years. My brother's was the most fantastic though. I wish I could remember what it was. I still see it in my eye. A humongous bright red thing with white convertible top and white seats, tail fins that went on forever... and him... gorgeous... girls swooning and chasing him. He should have been a movie star. He had the face for it.

Do you have a link to the one you drove? I wonder if it was his? I loved that car. It was like royalty.

You're welcome.

What's very cool is this picture. It makes me want to get in and drive (even if it would be likely to have an old 3-speed automatic... or maybe a 2-speed automatic? )

Maybe with enough practice and discipline I'll draw something this good one day. I'm not sure how much of an inspiration modern cars would be, though.

Ahh, what a lovely piece of work. Great choice of subject, too. I'm very glad that you shared such a "well-ripened" rendering with us! I encourage all the artists on dA to consider sharing formative/childhood works.

You did a wonderful job depicting refelctions with strokes that, if used improperly, would lend a coarse or grainy look instead of a smooth and shiny one.

Thanks. This drawing was responsible for me getting my first drafting job shortly after high school. The chief engineer liked it and hired me as a draftsman.

It's great. I design all my products in 3D so i can zoom in/rotate them. My little ID man was done with CAD. That was just something I did quickly.

Good luck in school.
