Love the dreamy atmosphere. I am strangely attracted to her hands. Did you use all natural lighting for the shot or did you use flashes/lights etc?

He was working to do a comprehensive art historical survey at the time and interestingly postulated that the nude is its own art form rather than a genre within art.

I don't think we can totally appreciate how turbulent the post-war period was. Traditional Western canon Classicists were at open war and felt under siege by the iconoclasm of the newer movements. The New York School Abstract Expressionists were dominant and the memorial exhibition for Pollock was shown in 1956.
Saying anything new about art in 1956 was opening the door to heated debate. Clark stood to get chewed on by his peers in academia and sneered at as irrelevant by the artists in vogue. You can see this tension where Clark wrote:
"When we wish to prove to the Philistine that our great revolutionaries are really respectable artists in the tradition of European painting, we point to their drawings of the nude. Picasso has often exempted it from that savage metamorphosis which he has inflicted on the visible world and has produced a series of nudes that might have walked unaltered off the back of a Greek mirror; and Henry Moore, searching in stone for the ancient laws of its material and seeming to find there some of the elementary creatures of whose fossilized bones it is composed, yet gives to his constructions the same fundamental character that was invented by the sculptors of the Parthenon in the fifth century before Christ."
