Description Winner of the Weekly Deviation Award at

In 1978, the debut novel by Whitley Strieber, "The Wolfen" was published. It tells the story of two police detectives in the metropolis of New York who are involved in the investigation of suspicious deaths across the city. They are revealed to be the work of a race of intelligent beings descended from wolves, called the Wolfen.

In 1981, the film was released. I loved it.

This is my tribute.

The animated series "Road Rovers," about a team of anthropomorphic dog superheroes, appeared in the '90s.  Here's a clip of the famous episode, "Road Rovers vs. the Wolfen."  Well, it wasn't really called that, but it should have been.

Great portrait of the Wolfen!

Although Strieber's novel "The Wild," about an ordinary man turning into a wolf, has been my favorite book since 1991, I didn't read "The Wolfen" until just a week or so ago.  I always thought the insane panic over a lupine animal in the streets of New York was something of an over-reaction in "The Wild," but if it takes place in the same universe as "The Wolfen," it makes perfect sense.

And people used to fear just muggers in Central Park!

Thank you my friend! Sorry for the late response but I haven't been on much lately. I haven't actually read "The Wild" but would love to check it out especially if it's anything like "The Wolfen". Much appreciate the info on that. Have you seen the movie?

I haven't seen the movie "The Wolfen" since 1981, but a friend-of-a-friend just emptied out his storage locker and dumped something like 300 video tapes in my lap, one of which is "Wolfen".  So I'll probably watch it again soon.

You can click on my "The Wild" page and see if you want to hunt it down.  Warning:  I'm prejudiced in its favor:

There's a throw-away line in the book where Strieber writes that Wolfen "fist-bump" when they meet.  Made my day!

Interesting concept. Might make good subject matter for an artistic print, assuming of course no copyright issues.

Hey stranger, was wondering awhile back what had happened to you. Glad to see that you're still alive. I'm good, just hanging out in Florida for the moment. How are you? I see that you're writing now?

Ex-Hick In reply to TonyGCampagna [2015-03-17 16:35:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, life got in the way for a long time. I was bartending for a few years. My hours were crap and the job was soul sucking. When they passed me over for management, I had to make some changes. Went back to school for a while, but it was basically refresher courses from my undergrad days (i.e. I was paying for less intensive reviews of classes I'd already taken), so I dropped out and started pursuing my writing seriously. Got married, had a baby, and now life is much better. XD
