Death Of My Best Friend

Two weeks later, everyone's worst fears that no-one thought could ever happen, happened. It all started when Superman took Harvey Dent, AKA Two-Face, back to Arkham Asylum. He managed to manipulate Wonder Woman, Flash, and Cyborg to join him in his crusade. And they were planning on putting all the inmates at Arkham in a place they'd never escape from. Batman, Nightwing, and Robin came to stop them and put them back in their cells. Damian turned on Bruce and Dick, agreeing with Superman that these super criminals did not deserve rehabilitation. A riot then broke out at Arkham. During the chaos, when Dick told Damian to stop brutally beating these villains, Damian snapped, "You're not Robin anymore! Stop telling me what to do!"

Damian then threw his escirma stick at Dick, the impact causing Dick to fall, and snap his neck, accidentally killing Dick Grayson. Batman was enraged with grief, immediately disowning Damian. Bruce carried the deceased body of Dick Grayson back to the Batcave. He told Alfred, Barbara, and Kevin of course. They were all devastated. Barbara was heartbroken and in tears. Kevin did the best he could to comfort her, but it was hard for Kevin too. His best friend was dead. When Kevin came into Bruce's life, Damian was extremely skeptical to accept Kevin as his brother. Dick, on the other hand, welcomed him with open arms, sparking a friendship between the two. If it hadn't been for Kevin, Dick and Barbara probably wouldn't have rekindled their friendship.

"Why him? Why did it have to be him, damn it?" Kevin sobbed, hugging Barbara while on his knees. Barbara held him tearfully and said, "I don't know..." Kevin looked into Barbara's tearful sky blue eyes, his blue eyes just as tearful. "I just... Can't believe... My own brother... Would do this..." Kevin said, trying to calm down. "I can't either..." Barbara said sadly, trying to stop herself from hyperventilating. "I feel so angry at Damian... But I know I'm supposed to forgive him, and yet... I feel like I'm starting to lose my faith, Barbara..." Kevin admitted, looking down. Barbara kindly put her hand on Kevin's chin, making him look at her. "You shouldn't, Kevin. Your faith is what makes you strong. We can get through this together," she said, "but for now, it's okay to grieve." Kevin sighed sadly, "I'm gonna miss Dick, a lot..." Barbara nodded and sadly said, "I'm gonna miss him too."

A few days later, Dick's funeral was held. Kevin and Alfred did the arrangements. Dick was buried next to Jason. All those in attendance were Bruce, Alfred, Kevin, Barbara, Dinah (Black Canary), Oliver (Green Arrow), Helena (Huntress), Kate (Batwoman, Bruce's cousin, and Kevin and Damian's 2nd cousin), Wally (Former Kid Flash), and surprisingly Selina, who was by Bruce's side. Kevin noticed that Tim and Kori were absent from the funeral. What Kevin and the rest did not know was that the two of them, alongside Conner and Cassie, were stuck in the Phantom Zone. As Dick was buried, Bruce said, "You didn't have to help arrange Dick's funeral, Kevin."

"Dick was my best friend too Dad," said Kevin, "it was the least I could do." Bruce nodded and said, "You're a good son, Kevin. I don't want to lose you." Kevin looked at Bruce and said, "You won't. I'm almost like you. Too stubborn to die." Selina chuckled. "Kevin, I have a bad feeling a war is going to erupt between Clark and I. I don't know when, but soon. Can you go back to Bellevue until this all blows over? Also so you can spend time with your mother?" Bruce asked. "Dad, college is gonna start in the first week of September," protested Kevin, "and I can't leave Barbara. Not now..." When Kevin first met Barbara, he developed a crush on her. Then, he started to debate with himself whether he had feelings for her. Now, he could no longer debate these feelings, Kevin loved Barbara, and he wanted to be with her, especially now. "College will still be here by the time you come back Cuz," promised Kate, "and so will Barbara." Kevin smiled at Kate. He looked at his father and said, "alright, I'll do it. I'll try not to be gone too long." He was willing to stay in Bellevue for at least two weeks. And then he would stay in Gotham, and be with Barbara. He felt that it's something Dick would have wanted.
