This is a picture of Sonic the Hedgehog being treated as a running joke. Honestly, I don’t mind Sonic jokes, but it’s been about 8 years that I had to put up with Sonic abuse jokes, and honestly it’s like beating a dead skeleton of a horse. I dunno who to blame. The Sonic-hating trolls or the people in SEGA poorly defining Sonic. I’m defending Sonic cuz the Sonic killing joke is old and he’s my favorite Video game hero besides Tails. Before I explode with knowledge and emotion, I would like to say that there are also some things I never like about Sonic either and I have the most unique reason why I have a hardcore passion about Sonic ever since I was a boy.

First of all I like to point out that Sonic is NOT a super hero. He’s a cartoon animal that is as AWESOME as a Superhero and he is a mascot that is based on Mickey Mouse, Felix the Cat, Santa Clause, and Michael Jackson to compete against Mario who is based on a landlord and Popeye the Sailor. I like Sonic because he’s a Cartoon animal that proves that cartoon characters are not just for laughs. They can have super powers and save the world too. I have a hard core passion about Cartoons ever since I was born. I can also see Sonic grows up in a same way like Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. And NO, I’m not just talking about the change in designs, but also a change in personality. Mickey Mouse for example was a mischievous little mouse who’s hungry for adventure, and now he’s nice, and polite, and friendly. Sonic is no different. Sure, he has the attitude like in the 90’s but Sonics used to be impatient and a little too reckless. Sonic right now, he’s more patient, more tolerable to his friends, and maybe more of a wisecracker, but honestly he needs more work on that.

And there’s the IMFAMOUS Sonic (2006). YES, it’s a bad game. The story is stupidly complex, the animation is nicely rendered, but the motion is stupid, and the stupid gameplay. I know it, you know it, the whole world knows it, BUT I doubt that it’s the worst game ever. I say the title belongs to Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Free Riders or Sonic Boom for WiiU. I can think of a few good things about Sonic ’06. I think Mephelis can be a good villain. He looks pretty intimidating by shape shifting and other powers, but I think his motivations are week. I kinda think the relationship between Silver and Blaze is okay. I like some of the music from the games. And there’s the “INFAMOUS,” SonicXElise kissing scene. Gee, who do I know about a cartoon character in love with a human? Oh yeah! “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” Jessica, A cartoon Woman, DID marry to Roger the Cartoon Rabbit and I love that movie too. I don’t see anybody complain about that. If it’s because Sonic’s out of character and Princess Elise is just a stupid damsel in distress; or it’s just bad writing then I can definitely understand. That’s just my opinion anyway.

Next is the current Sonic Boom. Yeah, that’s sucked by story, gameplay, and comedy wise. However, I think the Sonic Boom for 3DS is okay, but not for me. Plus love Sonic Boom Cartoon. It’s because it’s mostly about Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and the new character, Sticks the Badger. I can see more about the interaction between Sonic and his friends and its comedic battles against Eggman. What I love about this cartoon is that Tails get more Depths in the series. Other than my favorite, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails is always dumbed down in the TV series, and I’ve never seen Tails get any character development or being in part of the action in the TV series except for the last season of Sonic X. For example, Tails made an invention that nobody likes and they never rejected one of his inventions before. I can see Amy as a sweet chancellor and I say it’s a good way to show her sweet and smart side, and I think her Minnie Mouse impersonation is hilariously bad. And Knuckles….I dunno. I know he’s usually gullible, but I think they took her gullibility a little too far. I like the old Knuckles better, he’s more mysterious that way. I think Sticks is tolerable, if not good. All I can say about her is she’s paranoid about robots, she got attacks, and she does has some of her funny moments.

And there’s the Sonic Movie. No, not the new one, I’m talking about the anime. I love that movie. It captures the essence of what the Sonic Game really is and the character designs are spot on. Aaaannddd….I’m kinda a sucker for Catgirls. Yeah, I know it’s predictable, it’s too short and the voice acting is terrible, but I think it’s hilariously bad.

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog? I LOVE IT!!!! Of course it’s too silly, it’s too light-hearted, maybe it’s even cheesy, but at least it’s TRYING to be like the games and I like that kind of stupidity. It’s always about Sonic and Tails going on wacky adventure. YES, Tails is a winey baby and Sonic is a poor Looney Tunes knock off, they have charm too. But it’s the same Sonic I know and like and they do have Tails subtly grows up as a freedom fighter and points out that Tails is a mechanic and an inventor. I think Scratch and Grounder are best badniks EVA! They’re stupid, but still threatening and cunning and very persisstant. There are even some times that they ARE smart enough to stab Robotnik in the back whenever they have the chance. I think Robotnik is the best incarnation of Eggman with the worst designs. He’s a goofy, stupid, black-eyed hedgehog-hating, egg-bellied slo-mo who is sometimes scary.

And there’ Sonic SATAM. I’m gonna say it right now. I hate that show. Before you throw daggers, torches, and tomatoes at me, I will say this. I said I hate it, but I didn’t SAY it’s the worst series ever. I think Sonic Underground is. End of story. Anyhow, I can see some good things about SATAM. The setting seems accurate to the games, which is “Robotnik turns animals into robots and Sonic has to stop them.” The action is good and they did point out that the rings give Sonic some superpowers. The only setting that looks like the games spot on is Robotropolis, which is probably based on Metropolis in Sonic 2. I think Jim Cummings also makes a good, evil, threatening Robotnik. I like him. The animation looks great and there’s a nice, subtle message about nature and technology. Even the Nostalgia Critic points that part out. My only problem that I hate is the characters. They all don’t look like actual Sonic Characters. They look more like Don Bluth Knock-off and I don’t feel confortable about cartoon furries with big heads and very small women bodies. It’s just a group one-note stereotypes running the show. We got the cocky hero, Princess Mary Perfectionist Sues, the rebel who always all bark and no bite, and the big guy. We’ve seen them in all the super hero team series. Plus Tails mostly gets the short end of the stick. Although, I think Bunnie Rabbot is alright. I want a show that focus mostly on Sonic and Tails and have the entire show based completely on the games.

On the Comics, well… I used to hate them only because of the same reasons as I hate the SATAM, only worse, and more complicated. Not to mention that they treat Sonic and Tails worse, too much romance, I keep seeing some Disney and Looney Tunes knock off. SERIOUSLY even the recolors are more original than that. However, ever since the Sonic Megaman crossover the Comics are getting better. Somehow, I started to like them. AND yes the SATAM freedom fighters don’t bother me anymore. I say it’s an improvement. I love the way they have the good amount of balance between action and drama and they catered the setting which is ACTUALLY like the Sonic games.

In Sonic X….I both love it and hate it. On one hand they do got the actions good, but on the other hand…I really really REALLY hate the background music! It’s the same stupid song over and over and over again. I do like the character designs and the Story like Sonic Adventures 1, 2, and Sonic Battle…On the other hand…I….HATE….CHRIS….period. If I think Sally was bad, I say she’s forgiven and Chris should just die. Chris is SO Gary-stew that he made Sally look like cute little Twilight Sparkle. Plus he stole Tails and Amy role to be Sonic’s best friend and claims that he’s lonely, even though he got 3 best friends and his parents wants to be with him. Why can’t Sonic be with Helen? She’s more miserable than Chris is and we can just avoid the fan-service and some kissing scenes and it will be perfect.

Since the Sonic fan base is so huge, I bet everybody see different perspective in Sonic the hedgehog and this will never satisfy all Sonic fans. I guess my point is I see Sonic as a heroic Cartoon character that breaks the stereotypes of cutsy goofy cartoon characters and I just like Sonic as brave, loyal, cocky, and sometimes goofy… and I kinda see him as a walking great depression. Plus I love the Sonic GAMES and cartoons that are closest to the games. Sonic, in this case is never meant to be just one-note stereotype in just one genre of anything. He’s just trying to tackle all sorts of genres in games AND TV series to appeal as many groups of audience as he can. I was never happy about Sonic SATAM series and have the series focus on just Sonic and Sally only and everybody else is just a stupid stereotype. I was happy that Sonic can interact with more Friends in the recent games and in Sonic Boom and can still battle robots and be awesome. Before you gonna give up on Sonic, think about the other fans’ perpective in Sonic and maybe be more patient until Sonic gets back on his feet.
