Description I've mentioned for a while that I was wanting to make 'Super Modes' for some of my sentai and due to a recent artistic block and illness, I decided to finally work on that concept. First up is Red Wolf. I liked the black shift to white, which helps show that these powers are a result from awakening the White Ram powers. The 'Primal' name comes from the ancient power that the White Ram powers come from and I think it works for naming the super mode. The powers also allow each ranger their signature mammal weapon like the Wolf Claws.

Enjoy!

Are you gonna give super modes to all rangers (minus Silver, Bronze & Gold)?

toonartist In reply to ryderdecade [2013-04-25 16:44:47 +0000 UTC]

I did make Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple and Black super modes for the Mammals. Since White is already 'super', I won't make him upgraded. I might make Orange and Pink.

And green?

I could play around with that idea too.

I think the shift from black to white works well here. It helps make the design stand out more. The way the "shirt" also comes down below the belt gives me a bit of a Gokaiger vibe but I think it works well.

I also like how you've given him (and the others) unique weapons in the forms of claws based around their original animal.

Glad you approve of the black to white. Making the super modes for the Mammals was harder to make than I initially thought. I can see the Gokaiger tie-in now that you mention it, but the inspiration came from the super modes from the Shinkenger/Samurai rangers.

Thanks!

No problem

I am thinking of giving Metal Samurai a super form in his fight against Yuno, but I am thinking of doing the "Zord Mode" as opposed to the official super form as I prefer that.

I like the decision with the Mega Mode. I think visually it is a bit better.

On a side note, there were PR trading cards released and currently the 2nd Series is out. The last card I had to get was Gold Ranger Mega Mode and I was surprised to see it was one of the seven 'Ultra Rares' in the set. It's pretty cool IMO.

After the armour for Knight mode, I do feel it'll be easier to draw . I've been meaning to speak to you about a possible weapon for him. I'm thinking two large-ish kamas chained together (think Axl Low from Guilty Gear) and in the picture I may have him throw one of them at Yuno. However a) he's your character so I wanted to check first and b) I've seen someone else give a Sivler Metal Samurai fan character that weapon (albeit a single one with a weight on the other end of a chain) so I'm wondering if I should speak to them as well.

And that's pretty cool. I used to collect Pokemon cards and I still remember the day I got the Charizard card . Nothing like getting something ultra rare for your collection.

toonartist In reply to pawcanada [2013-05-08 16:31:26 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind the idea of having the kamas, but if you're making the Mega Mode version, they only have that joystick sword thing so you wouldn't have to make a weapon for him. I can come up with something for him if you want. I'll need a bit to think about something though.

Yeah, I remember the good ole days of Pokemon. Since I'm a sports fan and a collector, I collect sports cards and autographs so when I check out the cards section in stores, I'll stumble upon various cards like the Megaforce ones. And it is a good feeling to pull something Ultra rare, much like an autograph card from sports cards!

I was thinking of using Mega Mode as an actually super mode, i.e. against how it works in the series but if you feel that having his sword transform into some form of weapon wouldn't work, then that's cool. I'd be interested in hearing any ideas you have .

I don't tend to collect things that have any form of "rarity". The closest thing is the blind bag Lego Minifigs, but the only truely rare one is the recently released "Mr Gold" which I am avoiding like the plague. But there have been times when I've bought a blind bag and gotten one of the figs I wanted without feeling etc., so I know what you mean.

toonartist In reply to pawcanada [2013-05-21 15:30:43 +0000 UTC]

Yep, still have nothing on the weapon! I do like the idea using Mega Mode as an actual battle form. (Still surprised they didn't use them to fight it. Oh well.) You can use whatever weapon you see fit. Best of luck!

I have noticed that some of the Lego minifigures are a bit more limited in cases than others (I'm interested in the Medusa figure in Series 10 and read that there are only 2 in a case when some others are something like 5 a case). I might give a crack at finding Mr. Gold some time.

I love Kidrobot figures because you can only judge figures by its weight as they come in boxes, but I tend to not go too nuts on super hard-to-get figures as I feel they can get ridiculous in price. I pulled one the other day and immediately sold it on eBay for x10 the value I paid for it.

pawcanada In reply to toonartist [2013-06-06 16:52:10 +0000 UTC]

As I said before, I think it's a shame as I feel that design was a lot better than the one they used but I believe it was PR exclusive, so it would mean re-shooting a lot of footage.

It is annoying, especially when the second hand market finds out and jacks up the prices. I think its fair to say I spent more on Medusa than I wanted.

Yeah I'm the same. If I get a super rare figure either though an eBay auction where I DIDN'T break the bank or through a blind bag then yay but so far I can't think of any I am desperate for.

On a side note, I've tried my luck at four stores that have series 10 and they were a mess (you could tell SEVERAL people were feeling each bag). I did find the Amazon Warrior and Sad Clown (I wanted them both), but no Medusa. It's almost a joke as the prices online are like triple what a blind bag is. I did go to one store and while I was walking by, I saw a couple in their 20s both feeling up each bag and saying what it was like: *feel* *feel* *feel* "Painter" *feel* *feel* *feel* "Honeybee"
That was tragic as they had a HUGE pile next to them of the molested bags they felt up.

With Kidrobot, there's always like 2 figures in a set where NOBODY wants them and sell horribly online, but most releases have around 12-20 figures in a set with 4 of them being pretty good sellers and 1 being the Mr. Gold of the set. I haven't really ever lost money on selling spares, but I don't really go too nuts with them. The Street Fighter ones I did, but I now have all 20. Word has it there's a second series. So long, income!

I lucked out with Wave 7 and got the Evil Knight, Galaxy Patrol and Sea King through blind bags on my first try. I did feel one or two of the bags but otherwise just thought "meh" and threw all three into a basket. However I've never been able to replicate that "luck" since, always getting at least one or two that I didn't want. Now a days I try (though rarely succeed in) waiting about a week or two for the initial interest to die down and then look for 1/2/3 day auctions with little to no interest and try not to spend more than say £3 - 4 including P&P. Like I said, easier said than done.

I've never really looked into the Kidrobot minifigs. I think minimats have satisfied my Street Fighter need. Having said that if Kidrobot EVER does Dudley or Eagle please let me know .

Still no Medusa... Yep, everywhere I go, the Lego minifigs have been ransacked. I'm still waiting for the die down on Series 10 or a restocking to find my Medusa.

I recommend Kidrobot figures, just because of their look, but they are indeed expensive! I'll let you know if Dudley or Eagle come out. There is a second series coming soon, but it's not clear as to which fighters/repaints are a part of the set.

On a side note, have you heard of the Super Ultra Street Fighter 4 Mega Ultimate Edition, now with Elena, Rolento, Poison, Hugo and ONECHARACTERTHATHASNEVERBEENINASTREETFIGHTERGAMEEVER!!1!1!! + RE-BALANCING, NEW STAGES and MORE STUFF YOU DON'T GIVE A SH!T ABOUT BUT WILL PAY FOR ANYWAYS!!1! (I've gotta stop watching Mr. Torgue...)

Seriously, Capcom. It's not even funny anymore. Just stop and make Street Fighter 5. Please!

I've seen a few on eBay going for a more realistic price so it may be worth checking there. Rumour has it wave 11 will be out (at least in Europe) in August as opposed to September so you may want to bear that in mind as it could make it harder to get it at a good price.

I'd certainly get a Dudley figure if nothing else but as it stands I do seem to collect too many minifigs at the moment.

Yeah I'm unsure how I feel about this. On the one hand I am happy to see those guys in SFIV and I would like to see how the stages look. However I do agree this is simply just a re-has and lacks some of the "substance" that Super SFIV had. Were it to add in say Alex, Urien, Sodom and maybe a new guy or two I'd definitely be more supportive. I do think it's about time Street Fighter V appears (rumour has it NRS has started work on MK10) but at the same time I wouldn't say no to SFIV having "the best of the best" when it comes to the SF roster, although I really feel they should have hit that target by around Super or Arcade Edition.

Thanks for the heads up on Medusa. Cheapest one I found with around $7, but I just might try my luck with bidding. Speaking of Series 11, I'm pretty sure I must own the Yeti and Scarecrow!

I'll let you know what happens with Series 2 of the Street Fighter Kidrobot. They have been known to make quite a few exclusives, so I wouldn't be too surprised if someone like Dudley would eventually be made.

I'm in the same boat as you with SFIV. I'm curious on this 'brand new' character, as it sounds like it might be someone completely brand new. I wish they'd add a few fighters like the ones you mentioned, but I don't know if there's already plans for them in a possible SFV. Definitely excited to see what NRS has up their sleeve for MK10. Hopefully it's as good as 9.

How'd you get on with the Medusa? I agree the Yeti is good; I got one for myself and another for a friend of mine.

Awesome. Thanks for that

I saw a comment somewhere that suggested, due the odd number of "adding five more" and some of the ways they've answered questions that they may spring a couple more characters on us. It is of course probably just fan hope but you never know.

I am hoping they'll add a bit more diversity to the roster. I'd love to see the three DLC characters (I'm not counting Freddy Kruiger), some of the post MK4 characters like Fujin and Kai get a bit more fleshing out in a similar fashion. Also a proper role for Tremour would go down nicely .

No dice on Medusa yet. I've sort of forgot about Lego minifigs (Yes, I know, I'm horrible), and when I read your message, I went out a felt around for a scarecrow and yeti (which are both awesome by the way). My girlfriend picked one out and I got the rescue mountain climber(?).

I think Capcom's choice to make this next SF is a bit of an odd one, seeing as the new consoles are slowly creeping up. I just might buy this new SF seeing as I don't own any version of SF4, but that's the only reason. Fingers crossed the new character is Eagle!

Heck yes on Tremor! I'd like to see some new concepts personally, but I feel that NR have a very good grasp on what the fans want and can deliver.

pawcanada In reply to toonartist [2013-10-23 14:04:59 +0000 UTC]

I've gotten the Yeti but not the Scarecrow. I also got myself the rock/mountain climber as climbing is one of my hobbies.

It's scarier when you consider Capcom only have about £100 million left in the bank. One or two wrong moves could see them shut down. I suspect someone like SNK or Namco would buy the SF rights but it's still a scary prospect.

Tremor did appear in the Vita version of MK9. Whether this was simply fan service or the first in what will be more spotlight for the character remains to be seen.

A bit random, but have you tried your luck with the Lego Movie ones? None of them really interested me, so I was curious if you were. Once again, my skills are at your disposal if there are any of them you are looking for.

I hope the movie is good as it's nice to see Batman and Supes on the big screen again!

I was only after three of them - the Mermaid, the coffee seller and the Panda Suit Guy. The first and last would work nicely with my "Fantasy" and "Costume" collection while the coffee seller would work with the handful of "City Figs that are relevant to my interests" I also collect. Otherwise I find them a bit bland; they are a bit too close to the movie for my liking as I prefer more "neutral" figs. I'm not sure if you heard but the wave after is Simpsons based with is a GIANT pass for me (unless Sideshow Bob is included) and the one after will return to the "neutral" format and may also be based on the Minifig MMO. Considering some of the characters announced for it I'm hoping they'll appear in the next wave.

To be honest I'm mixed about the licensed figs. For example in the first trailer you briefly see the Green Ninjago Ninja and I'm a big fan of the Ninjago line. It makes me wish we were getting more established Lego characters over licensed ones, especially favourites from my youth like Captain Brickbeard or Basil the Bat Lord. Having said that Batman doesn't seem to be the most perfect, overpowered "I-can-beat-anyone-because-of-my-deus-ex-machina-plans" superhero that I am SO sick of seeing so it may not be as bad as I thought.

Having a Simpsons wave is quite a bit odd for Lego, seeing as they own rights to Marvel, DC, TMNT, you name it and they could easily make Minifig blind bags and they would sell a LOT better than Simpsons. I like the quirks of their OC designs and look forward to each release, even if I'm not interested in buying the whole lot.

I heard the Lego movie is really good, yet I find myself a bit hesitant on going. Maybe it's the lack of established characters of my youth, I don't know, but I haven't seen it yet. I've seen just about everything else, but the Lego movie, imagine that!

pawcanada In reply to toonartist [2014-03-30 22:06:13 +0000 UTC]

My guess is the agreements for the Simpson license allowed them to do a blind bag wave where as they never got it with the others for one reason or another. It's annoying as I want non-Marvel movie and non-Batman based characters on my desk!

The Lego move is amazing and I don't think Batman was really overpowered. There were a few moments that made me roll my eyes but that was about it. Otherwise it's a really good movie that targets both the kid and adult collectors. I do wish there was more roles for established Lego characters but otherwise I'd recommend it.

I did read an article about Kidrobot saying that the licensed figures are what bring the major cash flow into their company, which in turn allows them to fund more of the original art projects, so I guess it's a balancing act. I'm just surprised they chose the Simpsons as I don't think they are really relevant anymore.

Sounds good! I'll have to check it out.

I've certainly not paid much attention to the Simpsons in the last three/four years. I actually watched a recent(ish?) Tree House of Horror a few days ago and it was alright but not as good as some of the others. The best bit was the intro, which had been directed by Pan's Labyrinth/Hellboy 2's director.

I've been looking at Kidrobo figures recently. I've yet to buy any as I don't feel the licences cover the characters I want and as great as the artist designed ones look, none of them appeal to me. I have become interest in Loyal Subject's vinyl figures, especially after seeing this - news.tokunation.com/2014/02/17… . I'm probably going to try and get my hands on the White Ranger if he's not too rare or expensive. They may also have some TMNT figures in the works but I'm not 100% sure.

I bought Itchy and Scratchy minifigs and I dont' mind them. (It was more of a girlfriend-left-me-in-a-Target-and-told-me-she-would-be-half-an-hour-before-she-picked-me-up-so-I-had-some-time-to-plunder-through-them situation.) I have no desire to buy more and I'll probably sell them down the road if their value goes up.

I'm a bit mixed on Loyal Subjects. They just recently released Transformers blind boxes and I was stoked. So I went up there to pay for two of them and it came to $27!! That's right, they were each $13! Compared to the reasonably high price of $10 to Kidrobot figures, I think it's crazy. Further more, I have picked up some of them off of eBay for a bit cheaper than $13, so I'm curious on how the popularity of the Rangers. Also, I don't know if you noticed but the White Ranger looks to be the hardest pull (1/96) which is HORRID planning to begin with. And the Black Ranger is the second hardest of a 1/24. And there's a mystery ranger with Blue's lance? I guess we'll just have to wait and see what's going on with this set. As always, I'm at your disposal to getting these for you if you want. By the way, I resent the package today. Finger's crossed it makes it!

I'm the same. I visited my mum on Sunday and found she had gotten me two blind bags when she was in the Lego store in Cardiff a few weeks back. I got Bart and Grandpa Simpson and I plan to stand them with my other licensed figs but am otherwise unlikely to get more. I think my interest in the Simpsons is so far gone I no longer have a favourite character which is why the range doesn't interest me. Maybe if it was Treehouse of Horror based and included some of the unique designs that did it would be better.

You'd think it would be the other way round! I'll admit I have seen the Transformer ones but as they've yet to do Ultra Magnus, Galvatron or Rodimus I've not really bothered with it. And frustratingly I am aware with how rare the White Ranger is. I understand he's popular, blah blah blah, but why make any of the Rangers rare? Why not make all of them equally available as some fans may want, I dunno, a complete set?! Depending on how readily available they are in the UK and how much they cost I may request your assistance if that's okay.

And while I have already said this, I did indeed receive the package. Thanks again for the help

My girlfriend was at Target last weekend to sign up for a new phone and brought me with her, only to be BORED OUT OF MY MIND for a good 2 hours to the point where I felt around the Simpsons bags and found a Lisa. (I spent a lot of time looking, so it was my 'reward'. She was my favorite out of the family.) I also read the backs of all of the movie Transformers figures, so I have an impressive knowledge of the character bios of the new characters. (Even though I'm not impressed with the generic nature of the characters.)

I know Kidrobot made a set of Simpsons blind box figures that are inspired from Treehouse of Horror.

I looked and the series 2 roster is a bit 'eh' to me. I'm pumped for Slag and a few others (Sideswipe and Prowl) but the rest aren't too interesting to me. That's a good thing seeing as the figures themselves are quite blocky and take up a good amount of space.

Sounds good and as always, you are welcome!

If you don't mind me asking, and by all means reply in a note, which part of America do you live in?

I'm not sure if I have a favourite members of the Simpsons family any more. I did quite like Bart when I was a kid, and my mum picked up two packs for me when she was in Cardiff a few weeks back, one of which contained Bart. I'm glad to hear you got Lisa; there is a sense of satisfaction when you get a character you like/want in a blind bag. My first three Lego Minifig Wave 7 blind bags gave me three of the "I MUST HAVE THESE!" figures. I grabbed them in the supermarket instead of ordering them online, tried to feel one of them and then just threw it and two others into my basket. Speaking of, have you seen the list and leaked photo of Wave 12's line up?

I like LOVE the Transformers Kreons and I do really like the Custom sets, but as I'm not as familiar with the franchise as some of ym friends I rarely get any of them outside of "Oh I know that one" or "I like the character's design". I'm annoyed Grimlock and Ultra Magnus haven't been represented in the blind bags as I have Acree, Springer and Rodimus and feel I need those two to complete the display. As I said, the custom sets are great but again, they've not really done the Transformers I want. I just had a look at the Loyal Subjects wave 2 list and I don't really know any of them. I like the style so I'd definitely get one if they did Rodimus, Magnus, Galvatron or Springer.

Treehouse of Horror is really the only thing I like about The Simpsons any more and even then the last few I've seen have been average at best. I've not really seen the figures so I'll have to do some research as I am keen to see what they do.

I currently live in Wisconsin. I was born in Missouri and moved around a LOT when I was young, so I never adopted any accents and have a rather 'plain' American dialect, which I'm somewhat proud of. I can mock the northern and southern accents relatively well, so I can 'survive' conversations in either spot.

I'm always excited about which new Lego figs are coming out. I have my eye out for Genie Girl, Jester and Dino Tracker. How about you?

I went a little insane just recently as Target had several of their 'Lego' figures on clearance, so I picked up 4 Kreon Combiners for half the price and technically added 16 more figures to the collection. The new set (Series 4) just came out along with the TRU exclusive Age of Extinction blind bags, so I went a bit nuts with those. I saw the Grimlock set and the box is pretty damn big!

As for the Loyal Subjects, they've ticked me off as they released Hot Topic exclusive figures (Hot Topic's an emo/punk merchandise store) and Snarl is one of the 'hot' figures, asking for $30 on eBay. I've been to five Hot Topic stores now, and they don't have them in stock; they had never received them to begin with! I did buy some online, yet got the 'crappy' ones like Thrust, so I haven't been too thrilled as of late. I got Slag and his arms were stuck upwards, and when I went to bend them down, they broke off! Sad thing is, this is COMMON to happen! Seriously, Kidrobot never had issues like that, so now that I'm paying $3 more for Loyal Subjects and they do that crap?! C'mon, Loyal Subjects!

On a side note, Kidrobot made Ninja Turtles.

I never really knew Americans had much of a dialect until I was listening to some of Movie Bob's videos and noticed he'd occasionally let some of his native Boston dialect slip through. It's the same over here in England as there isn't really much of a pure British accent. I have a friend who's originally from Yorkshire and moved back a few years ago. I went to see him for his birthday, which was the best part of a four hour drive so maybe say 200 miles and the difference in dialect stood out like a sore thumb to me! As I've spent a large portion of my life in Gloucestershire, I've developed a bit of a farmer-style twang to my voice, something an ex of mine (who lived on the outskirts of London) loved to poke fun at me for .

I've also got my eyes on the Genie girl, and I'm also planning on getting the Space Miner, Battle Goddess, Wizard, Swashbuckler, Piggy Guy, Hun Warrior and possibly Fairytale Princess. I tend to focus on ones that can fall under the Warrior, Horror, Space, Mythology and Costume "sub-categories". I am disappointed we've not seen any "horror" figs in a while, even if it's just say a vampire queen to go with the wave 2 Vampire or some kind of lagoon monster.

I've kept an eye on both the recent blind bags (apparently they're removing the codes people use to tell them apart from future waves...) and combiners, but as I said, I tend to only really focus on Transformers I actually know and recognise.

I have heard of the Kidrobo TMNT figures, funnily enough picked up Leo and Donny from my mum's earlier today (then ordered Raph and Mikey ). I'm surprised to hear that Loyal Subject figures seem to have such a shoddy and common issue with the arms; you'd think after maybe a wave or two they'd want to revise the mold to get it fixed. And don't get me started on store exclusives; Minimates have been doing them for nearly as long as I've been collecting them and some of the exclusives, like the Hobgoblin/Scarlet Spider set that was exclusive to FYE were a pain to get. There was also talk of a Target exclusive Spidey wave which thankfully fell through and some of the figs got added to later waves. I understand wanting to make models that are exclusive to certain stores but you've got to at least make them obtainable by the fans, rather than forcing them to jump through so many hops. I'll still keep my eyes open for the TMNT and Power Ranger waves (though don't get me started on the fat the White Ranger is rare!), but maybe wait to see what the reviews say before I rush into it.
