Description When the project rolled around in my illustration class to build a picture made up of a repeated texture, creating a 16"x20" image entirely out of Japanese kanji seemed like the only logical thing to do. Of course. -.-;

Originally, I thought it was interesting that the kanji for "like" is made up of the kanji used for "child" and "woman." The kanji formation put me in mind of how many young girls would like to think of themselves as women, how they try to grow up too fast, and how vulnerable that can make them...

By the time I was done, though, I was thinking more about the weight we attribute to the opinions of the people that we want to like us, and how sometimes the things we like about ourselves are bound up in the approval of others...

Interesting technique you used here... And with a gorgeous result!
I like the shape of the scribbles you made... quite unusual The composition with squares is very well-placed too.

Sankee for the compliments!

Each scribble is actually a word (well, almost). It's a character used in the writing systems of Japan and China--and let me tell you, I will never forget how to write that particular one again!

Wow, neat! You're a very patient person
What does it mean?

Patient? Well, I also find meticulous, repetitious things strangely soothing. Until, of course, they drive me completely insane. What can I say--I'm a weirdo.

It's the character used to write the word 'like.' (see the description for more info)

Sorry for the insanely late reply--I haven't been around much lately.

P.S. Yay, Douglas Adams!

Lol, I wish I'd like such meticulous work as well - I find it so beautiful, but would never manage to make something like this myself

Oh yeah, it's in the description... Maybe I asked that because I didn't really got that ALL the scribbles are characters and thought only the ones in the squares were... or I just plain didn't pay attention to the description Sorry 'bout that

And don't worry about the late reply... I do that all the time

P.S. Gotta love the way he wrote
