I started house-sitting for my grandparents and my lil brother has a fish here, a Betta named Sarah (the Betta is male though but do fish have genders LOL). So it used to be in a vase with nothing much but rocks and a plant deco. I did some research on Bettas and they def need a tank or a bigger bowl than just a vase. Some Bettas like bowls but it's very rare. So I got a much larger bowl and got it a Marimo friend named Momo. I got some water conditioner and aquarium salts as well in case it gets Ich from the moss ball (wouldn't put it past Pet Smart). I got more rocks, another plant deco and a log for it to swim through. Since I've gotten all these things, Sarah is super happy and has been making a lot of bubble nests. Unfortunately I can't afford a tank and it isn't my fish but I try my best for it.
BUT. RESEARCH TURNED INTO FIXATION AND I CANNOT GET OVER HOW BEAUTIFUL AND VARIOUS BETTAS ARE??? SO HERE'S SOME???

Oh these are so beautiful! And I'm so glad you love bettas!!! They're the best. I've had a ton of betta, I tried to breed them at one point (i had 12 at once lmao) and even had some imported to me in the mail from thailand lmao.....some cool ones I've had were mint green, dumbo fin, dragonscale, dalmation (which turned into panda) but my fav is by far halfmoon plakat. Plakat are so feisty and adorable!!

In Cuba where I lived since bettas were aggressive toward each other of the same species they would bet on them and make them fight to the death and it made me sad since my dad had a bunch of betta fish and when I saw a new one each time I felt bad because I knew what it was for.

they used to be called the Siamese fighting fish and were bred to be aggressive but nowadays they're bred for show- patterns and colors

That's much better in my opinion then having them fight aggressively I always felt bad, once I tried to steal one of the fish and when I did I put it in this thin case but my Grammy over fed it with large bread chunks and it died I was only 5 so I was devastedly heartbroken 👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Just so you know, betta dont like bowls(its not a rare thing, they are just hardy fish), and bubble nests are not a sign of happiness, even sick dying bettas can make bubblenests, its important to understand fish don't feel emotions like we do!! However him being more active is a good sign!! You're doing such a good for him. If you can a 2.5 gal tank (its pretty small but still a good size) with a heater and little filter would be the best for him!! These pacapillars are adorable i love the colors!! Good luck!!

Yeah I know. They're advertised as "hardy" fish and beginner pets because of their survival skills (especially in the wild). I've done plenty of research so if I were to get my own, the circumstances would be much different. I'd most definitely have a tank with a filter and heater. I'm mostly doing what I can manage at the moment /~ \ (since it's not my fish argh)

That's nice of you to offer but I've sifted through a lot of Betta forums and done independent research. At the moment, I'm just "sitting" this fish essentially. It's not mine and if I were to get Bettas, the circumstances would be much different (as I would set aside a much larger budget). I'd love more information but not at the moment because it's making me guilty for not being able to do much in this situation :')

GAH TORI. I HAD A FEELING!!!! I actually have new pet Bettas. XD And you're right about the size of the tank. I got Yang (my betta) a 5 gallon tank and he seems very happy with his tank. But I have to get a divider for my brother's betta so he can share the tank.

Betta fish are stunning!!! I have one myself, hes a blue and red betta named Jaws <3 hes super friendly and eats off my finger! I bought him from our local pet shop, the tank was heart breakingly small and his fins were all torn up from the plastic plants and he looked really dull coloured but hes so much better now! I reallyreally want a mootail Betta though ;; a teal one would be a dream come true!!

My family used to have two beta fish but they died because my mom thought it was okay to put them in a room with air conditioning on cool over night. ;;
One was red and blue and the other one was blue to purplish I forgot what they were called. XD
