Description I'm doing a series of Chibi commissions and this is the first installment. Stryx is the youngest member of the Archer family and the successor of John Law. He has traveled to other worlds and trained at least some of the next generation of heroes. Angela Snow, AKA Valkyrie, was engineered as the final Nazi supersoldier, a couple generations after their time had passed. Done in colored pencil.

*****

Angela Snow strummed absent-mindedly at the strings of blonde six-stringed guitar. She had been able to justify the instrument to her tutors and guardians with three years of Classical Guitar lessons, but when she was alone her tastes ran into a narrow and relatively eclectic repertoire of 50's and 60's folk rock. It had been a heavy day, full of meetings with the Director and Fenris' self-important board, and Angela had been working late the night before. The guitar had become a way for her to clear her head after the increasingly difficult balancing act her life had become. Because the truth of it--and Angela realized now that this was always the case, even before the Director returned--was that nobody really cared about Angela Snow. It was Valkyrie they wanted. Valkyrie, the picture-perfect proof case of everything that Fenris had stood for. Valkyrie, who believed so absolutely in the cause that she would kill for it without remorse. And it was Valkyrie they would get.

Angela Snow, on the other hand, was having her doubts.

Angela stiffened and let the guitar fall onto her bed as she jumped to her feet and reached for Gram, drawing it and spinning in one fluid motion. She had not detected the slight rattle of the window frames as they had been pushed open, but the gentle breeze rustling her long golden hair was definitely out of place.

"Heard you were looking for me."

Leveling the sword toward the dark figure, Angela took a step forward. "I don't need to call for help, you know. I could kill you myself."

"Maybe. But you won't."

"Why the !@#$ not?"

Hi I'm from

I like the cuteness and understand you going for that chibi style, but be carefull because even chibis have to uphold anatomy rules. Use references and maybe do some anatomy studies (I know it's hard and boring work, atleast I think so haha but it really helps with all artforms, from realisme to cartoon and chibi-style)

I do want to say that the fella looks to much like batman. Also, I was wondering about something, because in your description she has long golden hair. But in your drawing it's black so maybe I'm missing part of the story and her alter ego has black hair?

So, this is a pic with a Nazi super soldier and an archer superhero? Hmmm....

...I hate Nazis. That out of the way, the Valkyrie looks almost identical to Sif of Marvel Comics fame (same color scheme, same appearance, same headgear, everything). Not a bad thing necessarily, as I like Sif, but if she's actually a Nazi Super-Soldier, that makes me decidedly disinclined to like her unless I am missing something. It says she "believed absolutely in the cause", which to me sounds like a villain rather than anyone I want to root for.

The other chap looks strikingly similar to Batman, but with a bow and arrow, almost as if Batman were going at it more Oliver Queen's way...or if Oliver Queen decided to become Batman (which he basically is in Seasons 2 and 3 of Arrow XD).

It's a cute picture with some nice if not also derivative character designs. My superheroes and villains are based off of pre-existing characters too though, so it's not a big deal. I like the chibi art style, which lends itself to cute, cuddly, and funny very well. Nazis don't though.

Wow--thank you for not just looking at the picture but reading the desc also! Yes, as long as Valkyrie was a Nazi she was very much on the villain's side. This is actually the scene where she begins to have her doubts in the cause she'd been fighting for. The line after the one you quoted is,  "Angela Snow, on the other hand, was having her doubts." Angela Snow being the woman behind the mask. Stryx follows this up, and in the end is able to convince her to flip sides. A short bit of that scene is attached to her original costume design here, if you are interested.

Yes! There are a lot of similarities to Lady Sif, as both Lady Sif and Valkyrie come from Norse sagas. Same source material there.

And thanks again for your wonderful feedback! I really appreciate it!

thay tend to be a bit longer
bows are hard to draw some that's understandable
Its nicely colored and well rounded

Hello! I’m here from ProjectComment.

First, let me say that if an adorable set up was your goal, then you definitely achieved that. This is very cute, and I think you nailed their respective expressions with the barest minimum of line work. That’s really well done, in my opinion. Their positioning and proportions work for me (I’ll admit to not being especially familiar with the accepted rules of Chibi, though) because everything looks like it’s consistent in this picture and nothing is in such a position that I’d wonder about their joints or bone structure – it looks believable, in other words.

My only critique, really, would be the stiffness of Valkyrie’s hair and cloak. They both drew me out of the picture a bit. If they followed the lines of her body more, I think it’d add a softness to the picture as a whole, and it’d fit in much more with Stryx’s cape and the way it hangs around him. It’d also help elimate what is a very solid, attention-grabbing solid emptiness between V’s legs and cape, where it all forms a perfectly solid triangle of emptiness. I think this piece needs to have *something* there, and having her long cape pool behind her might be the way to avoid that.

That’s all I have for now. If there's anything I missed that you were hoping to get a comment on, let me know and I'll swing by again.

Kevin
