I just saw this movie on Saturday and it was perfect! At the time that I actually read the books, there were only four with a fifth one shortly on the way. I think the movie did the books justice.
These drawings are cute!

OMG! That was about the same I first read the books as a kid! I got to reading the fifth book but then I stopped when I went onto middle school and I forgot about the books until I heard the news and saw the teaser image of the boys with CU back in December. It immediately got my attention because the art style was exactly like that of the book but there was also this adorable purity about it.
I remember I was all 'Ed Helms? Man he always gets character that end up being complete jokes' but I think this was his best acting role and you could tell how much he enjoyed it.
I actually came to this realization of how the character is the living embodiment of George and Harold's friendship and I wrote something for that on tumblr. It was pretty fun and I'm going to submit a part two of it at some point soon.

Yeah, I used to have a long bus ride to and from a camp and I actually read the books out of order.(the fourth first, then the second, third and first.) However, you really didn't need to know too much before hand to get into one.
I really found the bits with Principal Krupp and Edith the lunch lady to be absolutely adorable.

I read the third one first so I was really surprised as to who CU really was, though I was able to quickly get clarification as to why that happened in the first book. It makes me wonder how non-readers react to finding about the hypnotizing bit in the first trailer, but I admit its what helps make the story so unique and avoids cliches.
I've actually been doing fan art of those two! I wasn't sure how that romance plot was going to work when I heard about it and I was worried that Edith was going to be as horrible as Krupp was. I liked that she was really a sweet person and the romantic sub-plot was actually super cute (and I liked CU's interactions with Edith and how it was implied he was smitten with her as much as Krupp was. Its even sweeter if one believes that CU is basically Krupp's potential for goodness thats brought to the surface). GAH SO CUTE I WANT TO DIE! Its really nice to see a genuine 'super shy but equally attracted to each other' romance after seeing so many 'sexual tension/will they, won't they' romances lately, like in Guardians of the Galaxy or Once upon a Time.

Yeah, I was awing a bit too hard when Captain Underpants was immediately smitten with Edith just as much as he was as Krupp. Oh, and Edith getting very excited when Krupp became Captain Underpants at the end of the film was so cute!

Someone on tumblr ( they go by the name 'sugar-nugget') was able to quickly get pics of that scene from the video someone was able to take and post on youtube (which I'm sure is gone since it was technically illegal). I love the expression on his face when she moves her hair out of her face (actually her expression is super sweet too) to the point that its hard to look away because its so sweet. It really shows that even though CU is a persona created by the boys, that attraction still belongs to the true persona and was able to shine through.
Its reminding me of when Once upon a Time did their take on Jekyll and Hyde. There was a similar romance with both personas loving the same woman because the attraction from the original persona shone through the created one. I'm not going to spoil what happens or the big twist, but it unfortunately had a tragic end. Thankfully they didn't do anything similar (or something LESS extreme) in this movie because if they expanded more upon the romance I'm sure there would have been some heartbreak involved.
I was surprised but a little happy when she got to find out his secret. Maybe he still won't know about it, but she got to so maybe it will help her understand him a bit better or why he'll have moments of going out of character.

Yeah, Edith seems like a fairly gentle yet lonely person who just wants some affection. Although the idea of Captain Underpants/Krupp blurting out something mushy about him and Edith either on purpose to torment the boys (kind of like the part where he disgusted the boys when he told them that he even showers with the turtle camera) or simply because he's adorably naive in his Captain Underpants guise.
