Description
The KUO-A1 was seen as a potential rival for the SKB series, and was designed and manufactured by Kesellin. Much like the SKB series, it bore a 75mm gun, however it used a newer but more complex gun. The special 7.5cm KAT-42 used by the KUO series was not used in any other series of tank before its use in the KUO series, and was capable of firing powerful shells. The gun allowed a variety of choices shell wise, and was very versatile and capable if used properly. The KUO series featured a much more heavily sloped frontal armor than the SKB series, along with better optics over the SKB's, and also a faster speed (new BKB manufactured GK4B engine). The tank had a top speed of 53 km/h, whilst having the same amount of armor as the SKB's series, thanks in part to the well-thought out armor layout. The KUO also used hydraulic motors, and allowed far better traverse than the hand-crank mechanism used on most Scouric tanks. Even with all of these improvements, the designers seemed to have miscalculated, or misheard about the demands for 'three' machines guns, however it seemed it was only designed with two Melhiet machine guns. Nevertheless, it wasn't seen as a 'big' issue, and after a few trial turns it was deemed worthy to join the Scouric armed forces. One of the shortcomings for the KUO however was that it was highly labor intensive to manufacture, and cost the same as about 1.5 SKB A2's. This wasn't seen as a problem later on, as their KDR(Kill/death ratio) in the war stayed at a steady 2-2.3. Apart from some complaints from mechanics for the guns complexity to the tank crew's complaints about reliability of it, it was considered an overall great tank. It had excellent cross-country performance but had some problems with sand. The KUO saw heavy use in anti-insurgent operations in the deserts of Ariethia, where the KUO faced the problem of having an engine easily damaged by sand and of the latter.
