Description While working on a private commission involving the group of CHYKN, I got the inspiration.
I had previously thought that the old group of Kandrakar's Guardians may have lived in the 40s, but I never had the occasion to draw them.
I just wanted to draw their outfits but a little bit of story came by itself.

Yan Lin, may have been a farmer from a poor family. Her only consolation was the amazing landscape, where she could admire the mountains and hear the wind howling.
Nerissa was a musician, as they say in the comic. She was surely richer. I imagined her doing concerts in some chic-pub.
I imagined Cassidy as the daughter in a miller house. She enjoys the water mill very much.
Kadma's parents were very rich. They owned flowers shops all over the city.
Halinor's family worked as bakers. She loves to work around the fire.

Coloring is very poor, but at the moment I'm quite busy with commissions and collabs; I have to rush a bit with personal projects.
Hope you enjoy!
Feel free to imagine their story as teenagers, or how they became friends!

(ps. I felt so bad for Cassidy. after drawing this!!)

I assumed they grew up in the 60's.

It's so silly, but I never even thought about this team as youths and the time period that would have been! So very fascinating (that's what I love about your art, it always opens my eyes to something)!

I love the way you've captured their characters, their personalities shine through! But I especially love the way you've done the backgrounds in this piece, they say just as much about the characters as the people themselves, and I love the subtle ways you've linked them all together. And the light colours make it look something like a watercolour painting, it's so lovely!

This is great work as always, I'd love to see more of this idea!

I'm so glad to bring new ways to look at things. It is something I really care for.
I do think that the authors didn't want to contextualize the old group of guardians. Their clothes as guardians are too "modern" for some 40s girls, if we assume that the clothes may respect a little bit the time in which the girls are living.
But, unfortunately for the world, I love to contextualize things .

Ah, what a relief! Backgrounds are always an enemy. Glad to hear they were somehow enjoyable

Thank you as always, Meg!!

(Sorry for my late reply, I've just got back from all my travels and am sorting my life out )

I would love to see your interpretation of these girls guardian clothes if you ever get around to it!

My pleasure as always!

that's just so cool I can't express it! Your WITCH art always makes me regret giving away my huge comics collection so I can't re-read it!
Yan Lin is my fave

Awwwww
I'm so glad to bring some nostalgia back to us, old W.I.T.C.H. readers
If you want to read again the comic, I'm pretty sure that tere is an english version online, although I know it's not the same thing as the printed issue

Wooow, so awesome! I'm so happy my commission inspired you to draw some personal CHYKN-related art. They all looks absolutely adorable and I love your concepts for their possible past. I like how you portrayed Yan Lin, Cassidy and Halinor as persons who may be rather described as "poor" but still didn't lost their smile and good heart. Also, another head-canon that shows Kadma as Indian - cool!

Ahhh yes it was indeed your commission that inspired me.
I'm so glad you liked my concept (it was almost improvised!).
Woah I realize now that it isn't said anywhere that Kadma is Indian, but I have always assumed it
Maybe because of her looks, with that long black hair and dark skin. Also she had an Indian Blackbird, if I correctly remember.
Cool! I'd love to see other versions of her, where she is imagined some other ethnicity as well!

Honestly back then when I was reading the comic/watching the TV show for first time I've never payed attention of what Kadma's origins could be. But recently I saw an artist that designed Indian-style Guardian outfits for her and now there are several persons that showed her as an Indian.

I'd like to see other versions of her ethnicity too, some people people likes to think she's multi-racial - half Indian, half Afro-American. But I've recently experienced an argument with a person who was certain that Kadma MUST be Indian and that's it, not accepting any other opinion. She even blocked me after that argument. God, that's just a fictional character and everyone is free to think whatever they like about her. Some people shouldn't take such things so seriously. XD

Ahahah oh my, I can't believe it!
Like if Kadma wasn't indian the world would be different for thtis person.

I suppose W.I.T.C.H. is set in United States, even if it's never said. Surely it's not set in Italy, even if authors are italian. Here you will never find a place called "Heaterfield", that's definitely somewhere you speak English.
Afro- American would be very plausible! And why not Native American origins? It would be awesome!! It would have a lot to do with her being the guardian of Earth!
