Pure luck. Β Just being in the right place at the right time with camera in hand. Β

May I ask, when this was taken?

Late morning. The round rainbow effect was quite spectacular.

How fortunate to have a sun dog and those contrails when you shot this series!

Pure luck, trust me. I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't decided to try and shoot some images backlit by the sun. I actually wasn't thrilled about the vapour trails when I shot the images, but they give an interesting contrast.

Wow, spectacular photo. Was the halo actually in the original photo?

Indeed it is. The sky on this particular day just had this interesting almost web-like cloud cover, and just by chance I went to shoot an image with the sun behind it and realized there was this circular rainbow - sometimes referred to as a "sun dog" - in the sky. So I immediately shot a few dozen images to try and take advantage of it. The one with the celtic cross [link] was the creepiest because I had to lay on the grave to get the angle I wanted.
