Description

Honda NSX Type-R (Acura NSX)

Yup, another exotic Honda indeed, the Type-R version of the normal NSX mid-engined supercar. Being strictly JDM only
(no LHD versions of any Type-R Hondas) The 2005 NSX-Type R was indeed, a much longer Japanese Porsche Cayman
with glorious VTEC engine that made any 1985-2007 model Honda fanboys (like me) drool over this beast.

Β And yes, this was Japan's answer for their exotic supercar. After Nissan refused to sell their high performance
Skyline GTRs in LHD spec to suit the US market, Honda responded witht his by making a super sleek and sexy
mid-engined supercar. The NSX, when it debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989 as an initial press car was
truly exotic in every way, due to the extensive use of aluminum (even the seat frames were aluminum) And due
to this, the car bore an expensive pricetag of $86,000 when it went on sale in late 1990. But unlike the
somewhat crappy-and-unreliable Ferrari 348 TS of that time (which was not only prone to breaking down,
but would also melt led in hot summer days), the NSX had some badass paint finish along with intact build
quality. And of course, with that legendary Jap reliablity, the NSX was actually an Accord 3.3 V6 VTEC engine
tuned to produce 272 bhp and the Accord being one of the best selling(well engineered) cars of that time, the
NSX remained timeless throughout the years and right now, on Ebay motors, half of the NSXs on sale have more
than 100,000 miles on it (showing that NSX was reliable and fun to drive) Didn't brak down for 100,000 miles,
(160,000 km) but would need some repairs, parts expensive when the car needed maintenance. Still, I used

Honda engineers started with a base NSX coupe and embarked on an aggressive program of weight reduction.
Sound deadening, the audio system, spare tire, air conditioning system and traction control along with
some of the electrical equipment was removed. The power leather seats were replaced with lightweight
carbon fiber racing seats manufactured for Honda by Recaro. However, electric windows and fore/aft
electric seat adjusters were retained. The stock forged alloy wheels were replaced with lighter
forged aluminium wheels produced by Enkei, which reduced the car's unsprung weight. The stock
leather shift knob was replaced with a sculpted titanium piece. Overall, Honda managed to remove
approximately 120 kg (265 lb) of weight, giving the NSX-R a final weight of 1,230 kg (2,712 lb).

On another note. This car was voted by /DRIVE's Road Testament program the winner for best used cars for under
30 grand. (Featured by hosts Mike Spinelli, Alex Roy, and special guest Eric Riviera)

Done in pencils and took 2 hours to do. Love the carbon fiber hood. Done in 2011

They wanted to make this car even lighter, but that would've required removing the power steering and ABS.

and that wouldn't be really a car but a death trap.

which is better?

rotary engine or piston engine?

toyonda In reply to BlazeGTR [2014-03-10 00:47:27 +0000 UTC]

For me, it will always be piston

most of the car has piston engine.

But may be rotary engine is lighter than piston engine

toyonda In reply to BlazeGTR [2014-03-10 14:16:13 +0000 UTC]

but rotary engines are very inefficient, sounds horrrible at low speeds, have higher chance of breaking down due to the complexity of the engine, and of course, expensive.

Of course rotaries break down faster if you maintain them just as piston engines.

I test drive the RX7 first time!. Engine sounds great!

But Piston engine beats rotary engine there

Piston engine will beat rotary engine in many cases. But rotary engines have their advantages too (lightweight, less moving parts, high rev)

but I would NEVER ownΒ aΒ rotary engineΒ carΒ because if it breaks down, it's a pain in the ass to get it fixed.
