Description Awhile ago I watched garmus1 's version of NEPHNASHINE-P 's version of the Rolling Stone's Vietnam War era rock classic Paint It, Black, as sung by Ciara: youtu.be/ZYXZyENV1LI

It's a nice motion and I definitely love the song, but I had issues with the motion's interpretation of this piece of music. Nothing wrong with it as intended but the song became in the final analysis an anti-war statement and this was completely missed or represented in a different light by the motion.

So, I kind of reworked it slightly and attempted to present it in the context of the anti-war sentiments that became associated with the lyrics. Although it would have been possible to make it a Vietnam War era type interpretation; there are sufficient models out there to do that in MMD, I took a slightly easier path and used Fraulein Bismarck and Miho's Pz IV instead; pushing the whole scene back to the WW2 era.

All I did do in the end was to take out most of the rather extreme eye and head movements - neither of which were necessary for this version of the motion. Besides which, the motion was intended for a Tda base and needed some rework anyway for use with Bismarck's structure. Then I articulated the Pz IV itself, since it does have a turret and it would be a shame not to use it. Finally, I did the camera motion from scratch as that made more sense in this version.

I kept the MME application light - slightly dark and slightly surreal. It doesn't need a heavy hand to convey the mood and the meaning intended. Besides, Bismarck does an excellent job performing in this version and she and the Pz IV are naturally dark anyway.

Anyway, please feel welcome to check this version and do leave a comment. I'll love to know what you think of this interpretation: youtu.be/erFfxMOoJDM

Cheers!

I haven't seen the other videos so there won't be comparisons between them.
It was good. If this was in the usual, happy mood of MMD I'd nitpick things here and there but it wasn't. I'd like a different model though to be honest and the tank, if it had to stay, half-bombed or something. I'd like a sadder model (and that could be approached with many ways. A widow for instance, on her knees using the song to mourn).
I don't know if the song is truly anti-war, some people think so while others don't. I think that's what you see in it which says more about you than the song and I like that. I'd follow your account a second time if I could.
Also, I'd like more things in the video that portray the darkness of wars because, without your description, I don't think all the viewers will get your message. In the other hand, I might be asking for too much. :q I haven't done an MMD video myself yet so, yeah.

TL/DR: I like it.

"I don't know if the song is truly anti-war, some people think so while others don't."

That's an excellent point. The song was not originally written as an anti-war statement; more likely it was more about either depression or a bad acid trip. However, it became one by association; it was written and became a hit during the height of the Vietnam War and it became commonly used (later) as a reference to the ordeals of the men that served during that war as well as being reflective of the moods of those suffering from PTSD as a result of their war experiences.

The original MMD motion is probably truer to the original intent of the song. I just chose to interpret the song in a more "historical" context.

You weren't wrong or anything. The type of this song encourages people to perceive it differently, based on each person's thoughts, experiences etc. Maybe it was meant to do that, maybe it was meant to shroud its deeper meaning or maybe it didn't really have a specific meaning. The way you saw it seems to be shared by a lot of people. You definitely weren't wrong.
The only way to be sure about songs like this one is to dig up interviews from the artists themselves.
