Description Well sometimes one needs to get "stuff" out of one's system and here is a classic example ...

This all started when I downloaded Redstone222's model of Meiko dressed in the attire from the anime series "Oh My Goddess". As it turned out, there was also a model of Luka, in a matching costume with a gold on black color scheme (Meiko's color scheme is red/gold). Both are definitely very attractive edits, especially since they were adapted from Kio's superb models of Meiko and Luka.

So I wondered if it was possible to create a usable stage set using a black/gold color scheme. Because of the way the MMD lighting engine works and the fact that there are limitations to the MMD/PMD materials specifications, I've stayed away from using black on my stages. Looking more closely at what Redstone222 had done, however, I wondered if a similar approach would work on a stage model. Well, I think it worked and you can see the results in the screenshots above (which have not been doctored in Photoshop).

From a design standpoint, I've pulled together several themes that I've had on the back of my mind for sometime, including elements from work by Leonardo Da Vinci, classic architecture, goth fashion, medieval motifs, oriental lacquer box designs and modern graphic arts - quite a lot of elements that probably really shouldn't be thrown together into a single design, but I wanted the extra challenge. I think it worked out quite well but you'll have to judge for yourselves.

Anyway, the end product is a straight-forward, no nonsense model with some nice elements. It's a very simple set up, and unlike most of my more recent stage sets, there are no special features nor animations as I felt that this design doesn't need them to work.

To create a theme stage for a character, you really have to know the character. The rest of the pieces of the puzzle will then fall into place.

i have but since hes my utau most stages and there pieces just dont do at all . Cause you gotta concider country, good woods, possibly a lake side view , and trying to add semi concert stage speakers or something and it just dont go well. An parts that would look good ripped from games have white out lining and i cant fix that . So a stage for me is very tricky and iffy and cant be like a normal stage pr a concert stage ,.

I'm going to be damn straight with you. Designing and creating 3D environments requires a firm grounding in 3D modeling. Some people acquire these skills through self study, others go to college or whatever to gain the skills. The reason why I turned down your request for assistance with a project of this kind is that before I responded to you initially I had a brief look through your gallery and simply put, you're not ready for a project of this scope at this point in time. My suggestion, and I mean this in the friendliest way, is that you go and get yourself the knowledge before even thinking of taking on a project of the scope that you envisionalize. Else you'll simply be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Cheers.

We all suck at the beginning and honestly, MMD has a bit of a learning curve, but hey, we've all got to start somewhere and at the end of the day, I will argue that it's worth the effort. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing an MMD model perform on a stage that you built yourself.

As for ideas, with themes such 'something' for a particular character, start by looking at the character design and figure out the styling and color schema and start doodling using those. When I design concepts for MMD and in real life (work) I start by really researching the subject and I used to actually draw stuff out. Still do to an extent, but mainly I can now just do it in my head. What I'm getting at in a clumsy sort of way is that when it comes to developing design concepts and ideas, jam your head with as much as you can about the subject at hand and then go for a walk and let your thoughts sort themselves out subconsciously (or consciously) and eventually, you'll thing of something.

Well that's why I do, but other designers I've worked with may use similar but different techniques - everyone's different and you'll just have to figure out what works best for you.

Since I do MMD for fun I just enjoy learning about the characters and pull ideas from other aspects of my life to create my stages and most of the ideas just come to me when I'm literally walking my dog.Β

Hope this helps.

thanks this does help i never really thought of doing that . Tho now thinking about the back ground i could think of lots of things that could work out. So thank you :3 just being on win and no old os i can use blender to make origional models so in that self suck. Than having to use others work. While wanting to be origional and, yet bring more life to it.

Once i get use to better draw lines on ms paint in paint.net keep going back and forth to make really smooth textures and, while looking nice have a realistic feelt to it that its almost reachable. Thats my main goal X3

So your advice has helped alot . I even made a 13 utau chorus of pokemon ruby sapphire thing about this. An i think i have a idea .

Duuuuuude... when I just looked at this I was thinking of some ruler figure/dictator standing at the middle addressing his plans to take over the world!!! this is freaking cool, Dl'd

Btw- the ruler I was thinking of would be Zero (Lelouch) from code geass!!!!

Glad you like this, personally I like this stage's design too even though it doesn't seem to be all that popular. It is in a 'formal classic' style so its understandable why you drew references to dictators, but that was hardly the intent.

i was just wondering, you are really good at making animated stages, what are the chances of you being able to make a forest stage with a real working waterfall?ive tried animating a waterfall with digital ripple and mirror water but i couldnt seem to get it to work lol i would love to have a fantasy looking stage with a working waterfall to play around with but so far your the only one i know of that could most likely make it,i havent seen any other animated stages except for the ones you have

My computer system doesn't have the processing power to be able to do anything that would reasonably be convincing as water let alone moving water.

I know what you're looking for, and for something like that, you need a really good computer system. There is, however, a "poor man's" solution. Use an AVI background showing the waterfall. If you set up your scene and camera correctly, it will look very convincing.
