Description This character is inspired by a dragon statue that my buddy KM picked up at a company picnic.

NAME:  Ardyl
OCCUPATION:  Wizard
AGE:  90
GENDER:  Male

BIO
Ardyl is a kind-hearted wizard, who prefers to try to use diplomacy over violence, but when he is forced to fight.  He is old and very wize, but don't mistake that for weakness, because he is quite good at what he does.  For a time, he specialized in healing spells, but the needs have caused him to adopt some more defensive spells and attack spells when necessary.  He has served under many kings in need of a magician, and after Ardyl's original home was destroyed, he's been essentially a wizard for hire, but the condition was that HE decided when and where to use his magic, but he was always open to suggestions.

There was one king who he served under who had a dragon problem.  This was when he first met the great dragon Turquoise.  The king wanted Ardyl to go to the dragon and see if he could convince it to leave, since it was making things very uncomfortable for the subjects.  The wizard agreed.  When he saw the mighty beast for the first time, he had to take a few steps back.  Ardyl is usually good at figuring out creatures just by looking at them, but this was the first time he had ever been so close to a dragon at that time.  He walked into the cave and woke the dragon.

Turquoise looked at him, deciding not to attack first and took on a proud stance in the cave.  Then the Wizard explained the situation with the kingdom, being as honest as possible.  He knew how to respect other large creatures.  Turquoise didn't want to leave, so the wizard came up with a plan:  A duel.  If Ardyl won, the dragon would leave and never come back.  If Turquoise won, then Ardyl would lose his powers for good.  Turquoise agreed.

The battle was long, and the two were surprisingly evenly matched, even if the dragon had the advantage in size.  Ardyl could reach places that Turquoise couldn't reach.  When the battle was over, both sides were severely injured with no clear winner.

"Tell we wizard," said Turquoise in a deep gravely voice that was neither friendly nor hostile, but showed respect, "Is making me leave this kingdom really mean that much to you?  I haven't done anything to hurt the king or his subjects, nor do I have any plans to.  Isn't there some way we can compromise?"

Ardyl was taken aback by this question.  He had not been expecting the dragon to be such a humble creature.  "A compromise?  When you have stolen so much of our livestock." he said.

"That was not me," said Turquoise.  "I never interfere with humans."

Again, the wizard was surprised.  He thought of the idea.  "Perhaps there is a way we can co-exist."

"Bring your king before me in the morning, and we will see about working out a truce."

So Ardyl did as the dragon asked.  They weren't able to come to an agreement, but they WERE able to prove to the kind and subjects that Turquoise was an honorable dragon who would not harm anyone.  A gentle giant.  (They did this with a public duel between Turquoise and Ardyl, which Ardyl won, and he spared the dragon."

Since then, Ardyl and Turquoise have formed a bond of respect, and essentially became partners in arms.  Together they helped save many disasters around the kingdom.  However, eventually they had to leave.  Ardyl believed that he was essentially the one-stop miracle man, and he didn't want that.  He decided it best for the subjects to solve their own problems, but should the need for his services be great enough, he would return alongside Turquoise.  And he left.

Over his travels, he has been to many places, including the Enchanted Forest (even though wizards for the most part are not welcome because of the effects of their staffs of the forest itself.), and several other places.

Ardyl's made his own staff out of synthetic materials, so it does not absorb magic from other magical items.  Instead, the magic comes Turquoise, as well as himself.  It's similar to the bond with Onyx Dragons, in Maple Story, but he has no mark or connection.  Turquoise merely directs his power to the wizard's staff to use as he sees fit.

His staff is also completely fireproof, but he does try not to have it during important meetings.  He can however summon it to him at a moment's notice in emergencies.

STRENGTHS
Ardyl is relatively young for a wizard, at only 90, but he is still very powerful.  His biggest strength is that he can remain calm in even the most hopeless stuation.  He doesn't let anything distract him from the task at hand unless the detour is good enough.

WEAKNESS:
Limited supply of magic:  Turquoise can only grant Ardyl so much magic before he runs out and it takes a few moments for it to recharge.  In emergencies, he is able to draw magic from other sources, such as energy from other living creatures, similar to aura, which can then be manipulated into a projectile.  (This however is more often than not used as an emergency last-resort, even though the flora and fauna are not harmed whatsoever when he does this, he doesn't like to drain energy without permission.
