An "alternate universe" aftermath of the Season 20 TTTE CGI episode, "The Railcar and the Coaches".

One winter's day, Gordon was backing down onto his coaches when he saw The Fat Controller.

Gordon: Excuse me, sir. But I'd like to talk to you about something.
TFC: Yes, Gordon? What is it?
Gordon: Well, you see, about that *ahem* incident that Daisy had with Thomas' coaches, Annie and Clarabel, I must tell you that the way you chose to punish them was - how should I say this? Rather excessive!
TFC: I'm sorry, Gordon. But it had to be done.
Gordon: I know that, sir. But think about it this way; by having them go out with "Rough and Tough" Diesel, the passengers would be having a bumpy ride and start complaining. With all due respect, sir, is it really worth putting passengers through a rough time just to teach someone a lesson?

Before The Fat Controller could say anything else, James arrived to back down onto his slow goods.

James: I don't know. Perhaps having Annie and Clarabel go out with Diesel as punishment would help them see how bad their situation could really get!
Gordon: Perhaps, but I know quite a bit more about coaches than you, little James.
James: Oh, excuse me! Remember how I had to pull your express and since then sometimes pulled it to give you a rest?
TFC: That's enough, you two! Listen, you both have valid points. But my mind was made up. End of story!

Gordon then turned to James.

Gordon: Thanks a lot, James! I was trying to voice my concerns to The Fat Controller about his decision, and you've caused a major interference.
James: Wha- ME?!? I was just voicing my opinion! You were the one who spoke out against me!
Gordon: *Sigh* I don't know what I'm going to do with you.

Now, I really tried to see both sides of this debate instead of coming across as making the opposing side out to be a "strawman" (TV Tropes term; look it up). You see, I had a discussion (by note) with my friend MarzipanHomestar66 about "The Railcar and the Coaches", and he told me that he had no problem with the ending as is, despite finding it... rather unexpected (and to be fair, TRATC did having better pacing and conflict that *ugh* "Buffer Bashing").

Also, I had Gordon standing up for Annie and Clarabel because (in my headcanon, at least), he knows (or at least had learned) how to treat coaches. Plus, it was said in the Season 1 episode, "Down the Mine" that Annie and Clarabel "had great respect for Gordon the Big Engine".

Of course, I probably should have used a different engine other than James to showcase the opposing opinion. But hey, I did what I could.

Additionally, the reason this is something of an "alternate universe" is because my headcanon sees Diesel becoming a good guy (though still not the nicest guy) after "Day of the Diesels" (which my version would portray Diesel turning on Diesel 10 after the latter refused to keep his end of their bargain). So in this headcanon, if Diesel took Annie and Clarabel out, he would be more like Bradford the Brakevan (a character who debuted in his self-titled S20 episode) toward them. In other words, Diesel would behave more like a drill sergeant than a bully.

Oh, and I also included Cookie Monster as a little cameo because... I just wanted to.

NOTES:

- The interior of the station building is heavily based on the AJS station kit (a station kit made for the PC game, Trainz).
