Description My half of an art-trade with of her character, Jacob Bolt

I don't even know what this is. I started with the sky and sort of went a bit mad. Steam punkish influenced type things are not my fortΓ©, but I do adore Bolt, in no small part because his features are based on Misha Collins hehe. Bolt is from Beyond the Raindrop, LadyMintLeaf 's comic, set in a post apocalyptic world where he is one of the few survivors. I don't know the full story yet, but Bolt has an air of tragedy around him, on top of whatever has happened to his world. I like to envision though, that in the world he's living in there's still beautiful places to be found, if you know where to look.

Also, I cannot draw rock. This has been firmly established. I don't know why I bother trying >.<

Stock pose ref from the ever talented Much obliged!

This is extremely cool!! And "still beautiful places to be found, if you know where to look"... I love that idea. I haven't read or watched many "post-apocalyptic" genre things, but I really like the idea of a somewhat gentler take on them like that.

Thank you hun! I do like the idea that nature finds a way as it were, even when people might have wrecked a world. Optimism in the face of destruction and all that hehe

I really like that idea too. I've seen a lot of paintings (here on DA and elsewhere) of vegetation and even waterfalls growing all over abandoned cities, and I always find that so cool and thought-provoking....

Aw thank you hun! You're so sweet!!

The sky is actually in large part thanks to you. Remember that livestream you did a while back of This is Me? I went back and rewatched that, looking at the way you layered up colours, and learned from you I am proud of it, as I really wanted that glowing hue only a sunrise can give, and it took quite a long time, but I wouldn't have been able to do it at all without having you to learn from (my daylight pics have had a tendency to look murky/flat before)

*GASP*
Are you serious?? Omg... I actually helped you??

I'm literally about to cry tears of joy right now-- I helped you artistically??

So glad we get to help each other out in this sense!
I learned how to shade skin better (still not nearly as good as you, but I'm getting there ) and you create bootiful sunrises!!
WIN WIN, BABY!!

Lol yes you helped me! Of course you did! How many times have I said I admire the way you use light etc? You helped me so much!

Aaaw, really? that's super sweet of you Honestly, my baseline skin technique actually came straight off a fantastic tutorial here on DA, it's still my go-to base pallet now I have the technique down, all my characters start off with this as the lower layers:

And then I just got into really studying the colours and textures in skin over the years. Texture is SO important, all those little speckles and dimples and freckles etc, to stop your character looking like a doll. And colour too. Skin has a mad range of colours in it, not just peaches, but blues, greens, purples, yellows... A fantastic pallet I draw from is this one:

Adding extra dashes of 'unusual' colours to skin really does make it look more alive Β

Wow!! I love this so, so much!!
You really did a great job !!Β I love everything about this paintingΒ the sky is fabulous andΒ it's not true that you can not draw rocks.Β Bolt's metal arm is perfect and his expression ...
I could stay here hours to look at him!
Thank you so much for doing this for me !!

TrainScribbler In reply to LadyMintLeaf [2018-02-05 11:58:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh I am SO delighted you like him!! I was very nervous of what you might think tbh, this was a supreme challenge for me and I was worried I'd messed him up >.< He's such a wonderful character, I just wanted to do him justice. You've done so many beautiful drawins and paintings for me, I didn't want to let you down :S

Also, that arm hehehe... I took a lot of creative license with that XD I hung onto the fact he scvanagened the parts and ended up with the idea of bits of old computer motherboards etc being part of what he used. I know it's really different from how you draw it, sorry, I just got carried away It's not often I draw anything mechanical >.>Β

This was a really fun trade, thanks for agreeing this with me! Maybe we can do another sometime Β

Yeah,Β I really like it so much and you had a great idea for the arm.
I also love all the details you put in Bolt's glasses.

And yes, of course!Β I'd like to do other art trade with you! Β

Thank you hun! Β

That artm, man, that arm. That took the longest out of everything on this pic. Every single piece is individually coloured, one layer for each component. It took -days-. I thought I was going to go mad XD
