This is how I feel The Avengers might react to discovering some of the "not-so-canon" fan-arts and fan-fics while perusing the internets.I feel like Steve would be the most disturbed and traumatized if he ever discovered some of the things that lurk here on Deviantart...
I love Avengers fan-art. Most of it. Some of it,however, while often wonderful in an artistic sense, is simply downright ridiculous. I mean Thor and Loki? Clint and Tony? Come on. If that's your thing, to each their own. But my opinion is...it's just absurd.
And not because of the homosexual pairings...(I like established gay couples like Sailor Uranus and Neptune or King Renley and Loras) It just seems most of the crazy slash art takes the characters and turns them into, well, completely different characters. In really batshit crazy ways...
Oh, internetz.
Anyway, this is how I imagine the Avengers reacting to exploring fan-art and fan-fics starring themselves.

I'm pretty sure the disgust of The Avengers here is caused by one part Loki fangirls, one part other fangirls, and two parts illogical shipping.

The only Avengers pairing I find myself liking is Bruce and Tony.

Poor Steve, he's probably rather traumatized. Deep breaths Bruce, calm down. Natasha seems to be enjoying it though. Yeah, I don't get most slash either, maybe it just doesn't interest me or I don't find it hot, I don't know. Maybe I just respect characters sexuality too much. Some pairings just creep me out, like Thor x Loki, they're brothers, sure Loki's adopted but Thor still considers Loki his brother and they grew up together as brothers. Plus, I adore Tony x Pepper too much so I can't ship him with anyone else (straight or gay relationship) unless maybe if it's a threesome or something (Tony's a perv, he'd probably be all for it.) Apparently now, Steve x Bucky is a thing now as well, I never saw anything romantic there, it's obvious Steve is incredibly loyal to Bucky and loves him very much but in brotherly way rather than romantic/sexual. In fact, Steve and Bucky seemed like brothers to me, Bucky was like Steve's older brother who always felt he had to protect Steve.

Steve/Peggy is adorable but sadly it's not possible unless it's an alternate universe or something, I feel so bad for Steve. Cannon gay couples make sense because the characters are gay or bi, it's makes no more sense to me to ship a straight character in gay relationship than it does to ship a gay character in a straight relationship (then there are characters like Jack Harkness from Doctor Who that could be shipped to pretty much everyone.) I'm not a complete cannon purist but I'm close, I generally ship the couple that becomes cannon anyway and I generally like most cannon pairings. I started thinking about how horrible it would be for Tony to find fanart because anything that was related to what happened in the Avengers would trigger a panic attack, poor Tony suffering from PTSD.

After seeing all the crazy avengers slashes here on dA, this picture sums up my reaction as well as it does for the characters themselves. Poor Steve is going to be traumatized for a long time, especially when he sees all the Steve x Tony stuff.

Seriously, I can understand why some people can see appeal in Steve x Tony, since they start out disliking each other and eventually learn to cooperate, but I think taking their relationship to the erotic level is just...disturbing. The only indications I found of them playing well together were near the end of the movie, where 1) Steve was showing genuine shock and concern for the passed-out Tony, and 2) the part where they finally shook each other's hands. IMO I see no basis for an erotic relationship between them, at most they are comrades and friends.
Still, each to their own. I haven't looked much into the other pairings, maybe Thor x Loki is just as crazy but I guess I would know better than to look into that.

What bugs me most about a lot of Steve x Tony stuff is that they're completely out of character, especially Steve. He's often portrayed as super sexual, which he isn't. He had a hard time just asking Peggy to dance, he isn't going to make sexual advances, whether it be a man or woman. It doesn't mean he'll never have sex but I think it would take a long time to get to that point (maybe he's even demi-sexual). I know some of the things he says to Tony could be considered sexual if you have a dirty mind but I don't think Steve meant anything sexual about that. I've also noticed that in certain Steve x Tony pieces, Tony seems to be borderline sexually harassing Steve is not comfortable with it, at all, which I find really creepy.
Thor x Loki really grosses me out. They're brothers, adoptive brothers but still brothers. Thor even still calls Loki his brother all time. Why would Thor want to do anything sexual with someone he considers his brother?! I think I read somewhere that Loki is bi so I can see him in a relationship with other men, just not with Thor.

Perhaps Thor x Loki is just based on their relationship as brothers gone wrong, with Thor really wanting Loki to come back. Anyways, I'm just going to enjoy all the relationships as they are. No extreme shipping.

I'm not bothered by the fan art, but I know how it feels when you're not into it and the frustration of only finding what you're not into.
But I love it, and I love Natasha's reaction! I can imagine her secretly telling Pepper, Maria, Jane, and Darcy about it, but then it turns out they already know, so then they'd link up in Tumblr and reblog what they find.
