Well,Yes I usually use pentool to define major forms, case it's faster and more acurate thendrawing them freehand.
I would suggest watching some tutorials (there are plenty on the web,youtube) and copying works you like

Do you use pentool when doing this? I badly want to create UI myself (studies) but don;t know how and where to start.
