Description

A lot of Nintendo satire and parodies seem to love poking at the idea of relationship tension between the Mario brothers and princesses. Fair nuff, but I much prefer to think they’re all gettin’ along just fine and dandy.

It's an original take on combining the Egyptian motif of Sarasaland and Daisy's dress. You can find an earlier, fuller sketch I did of it a few posts down, posted by !

Good job turning Daisy into a Latina when she's clearly ginger.

I think she was going for the more Desert look, considering Daisy's a DESERT PRINCESS. You know, originally she wasn't pale with bright orange hair.

Uh, she was originally pale with bright orange hair and Sarasaland is not just a desert so you're an idiot.
In Super Mario Land, the only game to feature Sarasaland, she is pale with bright orange hair. What a fool.Β

Well, if you look at her appearance in classic games, she's far tanner than Peach. And she had more of a light brown hair than ginger hair. And as part of it is a desert, that is where they decided to interpret where she was from in the art, and well, I'm pretty sure that's not a Latina? Correct me if I'm wrong on that. And commonly, being pale in more traditional nations is depicted as upper class, so that would explain that.

No, her hair is brownish, which is common in ginger hair. And again, even now her hair is practically bright orange.
The tan didn't last but a couple of her many appearances, and wasn't any tanner than literally every other character except Peach.
You're taking everything concerning it out of context.

It was a light brown in games like Mario Party 3, and she was quite tanner than the others. And perhaps she paled over time due to residing in the Mushroom Kingdom which is not as warm? And, if you think she (or he) depicted Daisy incorrectly, why don't you draw your own interpretation of her instead of judging how she interpreted and drew Daisy?

Or you can stop right now. First and foremost, the "tan" Daisy was simply because of palettes used during the N64 era (this includes the earliest GameCube games). None of the palettes used before or after the era were so dark. For Mario Party 3, it was probably done in-game to differentiate between the two princesses, but that fell flat on its face.

She's of some desert descent, even if not completely. Some people liked her tanner, classic design. It made her pretty unique. Also, does everything have to be completely canon? If Daisy looked exactly the same in each picture with her light skin and bright orange hair, would there really be any art to enjoy?

Sarasaland is comprised of four regions (in this case, kingdoms): Birabuto, Muda, Easton, and Chai. Of the four, only Birabuto is a desert. There's a greater chance of Daisy being more directly linked to Chai than there is of her being linked to Birabuto.

The only times Daisy has appeared to be darker than she really is had all been the result of one of two things: either a very limited number of palettes had been used or the palettes used were completely inconsistent with palettes used both before and after. The artwork for Super Mario Land takes from the former case but clearly indicates that there is little difference between her skin tone and Mario's; anything from the N64 era (which includes the earliest GBA and GCN/NGC games) takes from the latter case. Contrary to popular belief, the N64 era did not properly feature her classic design, nor did it do so for anyone else.

Your last two questions don't even make sense for radically different reasons. Of course nothing has to be completely canon; Daisy's tan here can easily be explained as her having spent more time in the sun and it wouldn't be an issue. Art being enjoyable is relative. While the look may have a bit of impact, saying or implying that it's bad simply because of a very specific look is used is shallow. My biggest criticism with those talking about "tan" Daisy is that those who say that clearly did not pay attention to where that came from in the first place; it only becomes more grating when people claim that's her "classic" look when her classic look comes from Super Mario Land and is considerably different because of the palettes used. The palettes used during the N64 era were all darker and more hideous than the softer and lighter palettes used both before and after.

Well, wasn't Peach slightly more pale? Well, regardless, Daisy has no confirmed ethnicity. So I think there's nothing really "incorrect" about her interpretation of Daisy.

If Peach really is paler, it's by an insignificant margin (last I checked, she's not and people simply failed too pick up on this during the N64 era).

Well, regardless. Daisy has no confirmed ethnicity, so it's not really wrong to draw her in such a way.
