Inspired when I noticed a recurring theme in sci-fi alien design: tentacle mouths!From L to R: a pak'ma'ra from Babylon 5, Zoidberg from Futurama, an Ood from Doctor Who, and the granddaddy of them all: Cthulhu.

So I'm not the only one who noticed the similarities between Zoidberg and the Ood. You could add Davy Jones and Admiral Akbar. OH! And that weird Dalek Man, he had brain tendrils on his face.

I would add the Illithid from "Dungeons and Dragons", although I think all of them owe Old Cthulhu for the inspiration (Gary Gygax pretty much said as much about the Illithis, as I recall

There's also a Quarren race from StarWars universe ([link] ) and the Illithid from Forgotten Realms ([link] ) - the latter are probably closest to Cthulhu, and they do actually eat brains

I don't normally use this word, because I think it's used waaay too much, but there's just no other word for this: EPIC.
Zoidberg looks especially awesome. He's the only one who doesn't seem slightly irritated. He's probably just ecstatic to be eating doughnuts.

To tell you the truth, he was the main inspiration for this drawing. I just recently re-watched Babylon 5 and when I saw the pak'ma'ra (especially when they were using the translator ball things) I thought 'hey, the Ood kinda ripped these guys off!" and it got me thinking about all the other similar aliens.

Oh, wow, yeah that does look like him. I tried to think of a Star Wars character that fit the theme, but I wasn't able to come up with anything in time. (Of course I thought of the Quarrens well after I was done with the drawing portion.)

Ah, the pak'ma'ra. Very Ood like. All the other races think they're disgusting and ugly, but among their own people they're quite spiritual. In fact, in a few episodes, they even had a small, glowing orb translator a lot like the Ood's.
