TRDL 2014 Series, No. 23 – Squirrel Girl
This one was done for the R3 Art Challenge, the subject being Squirrel Girl, from Marvel Comics. I have to say, what came off initially as a throwaway half-hearted comic relief character to me easily became an interesting one once Bendis wrote her in as the Cage/Jones nanny. She’s a nutty one (so to speak)… a tongue in cheek impossibly powerful character with an absurd powerset, used by writers the way dodgy GMs use those rule-free NPCs in RPGs to frustrate their players. She defeated Galactus, I think. With squirrels. Anyway, she has a new book coming out by an amazing creative team, and it was fun to go through her different incarnations to pick a version to sketch this week. I preferred the look from the cartoon, so I did a version of that. Less fur.
