LIFESPAN
SEASON FOUR

BEGINNINGS 1998 - 1999

Facially, CHROMEDOME always occurred to me to be the poorest drawn and animated of the Autobot Headmasters in the cartoon, so it was difficult for me to get a feel for his appearance. For that reason, I was unable to draw a reference sketch at the time and the first icons looked oddly bloated -- which is an interesting condition for a supposedly metallic entity -- and nowhere near streamlined, even by the standard set by some of my concurrent icons. As far as I was concerned, he was also a good example of how a largely featureless model and basically non-existent personality (though the few vocal lines he received in THE REBIRTH do give hints of a jovial type) could hamper my inspiration to work on a character.

SECOND WIND 2008 - 2009

Many are the times when I tried my hand at CHROMEDOME again and aborted the work. Only when I was determined to redo every single post-movie character icon in 2008 did I actually give him a new lease on life. Not bad, for once, but he still needed the extra boost to his features provided in 2009, 11 years to the day since the first-ever attempt (one of surprisingly many cases of updates occurring on the same date of the month as the original). The latest update is an enlargement to adhere to scale and smoothing of the shades of his colour scheme.

I kinda agree with you on his head design. It is rather aesthetic where you got the original toy head design which suits him well to his robot mode. I think his head design looks quite similar to Cerebros's head design having a similar face plate design. Otherwise this is well done Rik.

Yeah, it's easy to tell they didn't exactly work too hard on differentiation that time around.
