BEGINNINGS 1998 - 2000
I originally struggled to render this reinvention of SNARL in icon form. Modeled after a sketch I based on the TV series episode DESERTION OF THE DINOBOTS, I could not fit him into the 32x32 format very well. Some trial and error reshaping helped, but I was off the mark on a number of details. I was much happier with the second attempt -- the colouring, the framing of his eyes, his nose -- so pleased, in fact, that I decided to drop a third 1998 attempt the instant I completed it. The only change I made two years later was the by then standard mouth placement.
SECOND WIND 2009 - 2011
This is the way SNARL would generally appear in episodes from the second season, such as DESERTION OF THE DINOBOTS, upon which this avatar is based. It is what I perceived to be his only design for many years. Once again, his many angled shapes made him a difficult task in proportion terms, but it still remains the easiest of the three looks to capture. Aside from my increasing awareness of and attention to scale, the latest renovation is characterized by a more appropriate facial expression (this guy was only slightly less severe than SLAG) and the best shaping and positioning of his "horns" to date.
