BEGINNINGS 1998 - 2002

I've always felt a certain degree of apprehension about working on TRYPTICON, owing of course to the sheer detail of his dinosaur head. In 1998, I tried him out with both portrait and ¾-view sketches of his head, and after some deliberation I decided to go with a frontal shot. The 1998 version is actually not terrible, if constricted. It didn't take too long to realize that a big bad city-sized Transformer really deserved a far larger icon. So, four years, later, I did a larger version that remained true to the basic design of the older icon, but with a bit more room for detailing and proportioning, not least his mouth lasers. Still, some details defied me, so I always had him down for another update.

SECOND WIND 2008 - 2010

The first of two new updates came in 2008, and while I still think the attempts were reasonably decent, scale had since become increasingly important to observe. An enlargement was plainly in his future. More than two years on, I took to the task again, retaining a lot of the previous version and reintroducing the neck portion that I'd included in 2002, as I felt it lent a little more weight to his dinosaur head. Following a major METROPLEX size increase, it was a given that his nemesis be accordingly adjusted. TRYPTICON was still a challenge, but I found myself having more fun with him than before.

ULTIMATE WAVE 2016 - 2018

For the penultimate iteration, I decided to add what looks like a kind of collar, just to give him the equivalent of a neck that I include for almost every other character. It remains interesting to note that TRYPTICON doesn't have identifiable eyes (the only clear such depiction is generally found in comic books), but G1 cartoon-oriented as I am, I do my best to be true to his features as they've been presented there. A pretty great size increase has once again been done, making it easier to fit all the elements properly into his appearance.
