Description The Polaris-Class is a new deep space multi-use explorer in the 25th Century, performing many of the same duties as the Galaxy-Class. This ship is considerably larger than the Sovereign with more interior space. The Polaris has the ability to saucer separate, and includes a newly designed Ursae-Class captain's yacht.

Century class should have been the ENTERPRISE-E and the Polaris (slipstream project) class should be the ENTERPRISE-F, respectively.

So beautiful. I actually play the MMO Star Trek Online, I would so love for the Polaris class to be ingame.Β

I have two classes of ship i love, Sovereign & Archon. The Polaris, seems to meld alot of these designs, while still feeling she can take on any threat, but at the same time, be as gentle as a mother with her new born child.Β

The Ursae yacht was made years ago, along with the Polaris. I'm surprised I don't have any pictures of it here on dA.

The yacht is actually located on the bottom saucer, near the front.

Did you make it is 3DS max, and have you posted your conceptual drawings somewhere? I'd love to see how you started out with it.

I make all of my meshes in 3ds Max. I have not posted any conceptual artwork anywhere, since they are pretty rough.

Going by eyeball and deck heights, I scale her out to about 802 meters long.Β  Does that sound about right?

*Edit, never mind.Β  I found the spec sheet.Β  Was the first version longer by a bit?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trekmodeler In reply to MorganDonovan [2017-01-02 00:21:54 +0000 UTC]

I scaled the original Polaris to be 775 meters, based from the deck count I created when I was creating the windows. The overall length could be a few meters either way.

MorganDonovan In reply to trekmodeler [2017-01-02 01:36:42 +0000 UTC]

Interesting.Β  I guess the model I was measuring was off.Β  I did note that on your comparison/evolution image the "refit" is slightly shorter than the original.Β  That's what made me wonder.

Either way, fantastic work!Β  She's going into my "head canon".

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trekmodeler In reply to MorganDonovan [2017-01-04 06:26:10 +0000 UTC]

You are correct. The "refit"/Armada III version is slightly shorter since the saucer is oval instead of egg-shaped.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MorganDonovan In reply to trekmodeler [2017-01-04 11:15:24 +0000 UTC]

That would explain it.Β  That and that I wasn't measuring from your refit model.Β  I suspect whoever modeled the one I was using based it off of your first version.

Thanks for replying!

The only two I know in existence is the Bridge Commander one and the Armada III one. Both are modeled by me.Β

Now see why could they not do something like this for the new tv show (Star Trek Discovery), or S.T.D. for short lol, I mean this is elegant, there's looks cheep and cardassian or something?
Am I wrong in feeling this way?
awesome by the way. Β

trekmodeler In reply to Painkiller4life [2016-12-22 16:20:33 +0000 UTC]

Star Trek Discovery takes place in a different era. The Polaris has no place in a TOS/TMP era TV show. Maybe the new show wants to do something different than to retread on existing designs.

Agreed, I guess im trying not to get my hopes up, you know, its been so long, and its only 10 episodes on a specific website that requiers an account, I mean come on man, Star Trek is supossed to be for everyone, comercial BS if you ask me! I just dont think this is what roddenberry had in mind.

After the massive Excalibur X-1 the Polaris Class is my favorite star ship design. My only gripe is Starfleet's inability to learn lessons of war. The greatest weakness of the Galaxy class was the primary/secondary hull clamps. They were the down fall of more than one of the class during the Dominion War and against an obsolete Klingon ship was the achilles heel of the Enterprise D. Why would they continue installing a flaw in a ship as well designed as the Polaris?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trekmodeler In reply to ViciousRexSOL [2015-11-13 18:33:48 +0000 UTC]

The Federation was never a wargoing group, and they never thought the warp core's magnetic interlocks were such an issue. No ship is ever perfect.

As Kirk once said, "A ship may be state-of-the-art, but it has countless bugs to work out. Another ship may be 100 years old and shakes like a rattle, but the bugs are long gone- and that's why she's 100 years old."

If you read the backstory for the Polaris, the ship had problems with its slipstream drive, not with its warp core.

Fought the four years war with the Klingons. Fought the Romulans. Had all negative encounters with the Voth, Tholians and those lizard folk whose names I can't remember. Then there was the Borg. Realisticly and tactically the biggest threat to not only the Federation but all sentient forms of life. Not dealt with in context of the real threat. Then there was the Dominion War. That was a disaster in ship tonnage loss and sheer casualties. I disagree about not being wargoing. Not militarily equipped or tactically sound, yes. I admire Rodenberry's hopeful outlook on the future and kind of chuckle at his gloominess of the Cold War. I think JJ Abrams more combative universe is more gritty and reality based. Still, i have a great Star Trek ship portfolio of over four thousand pics. Love them.
