Description This is my variant cover for IDW's Transformers Spotlight: Blurr.

I've based it on an Art Deco style, partly because I could take advantage of streamlining elements, but also to allude to the setting: The Golden Age of Cybertron's past!

Spotlight Blurr is written by Shane McCarthy [link] with art by Casey Coller and colours by Joana Lafuente

You gotta love art-deco. Reminds me a bit of the Rocketeer's movie poster.

I'm looking at your gallery like mad and falling in love with your TF covers. Mainly because of the art deco-like style (I pretty much eat up anything that remains me of the 20s and 30s). This is just plain stylish. Heck, even the two spotlights protruding out of the city has that classy, old-timey feel.

I really like the art deco styling, very different, and works really well, especially with the character in question.

Despite the incredibly "old school awesome" the look is, I just can't shake the "Six Million Dollar Man" sound effect.

I recently attended an Art Deco exhibition which really helped me to appreciate what you've done with this cover so much more!

Not just a great Transformer artwork, but just plain lovely art itself.

Thankyou. Yes I too went to and Art Deco exhibition - in Melbourne during the making of this - which really helped me get inspired.

Excellent work!!!

I like a lot those retro styles, raygun gothic, "retro-futurism", populuxe, and art-deco the one that you used here

This is fantastic - I think I can see exactly the posters that influenced you too, which is always cool - great job on this - any plans for a series?

Glad you like it! I looked at a lot of examples of Art Deco advertising posters from the 1930s, particularly ones of trains and of grand prix. Also some movie posters; specifically Metropolis and the Rocketeer. I'm not sure if there will be a series; it depends if the style is appropriate for the issues - but it's possible!
I like your work btw!

Wonderful! Good point about making sure the style is appropriate for the issue content, lots of elemens come together to really make this work both as an illustration and a cover to the issue - still, would be lovely to see this explored further in other works sometime

And thanks! ^__^

Love this. Love it.
It has been so fun to see some of the old styles brought back... In Comic Books! Who'da thunk it?
*cheers*

This is awesome. Especially after having one of my illustration teachers (a guy by the name of Joo Chung... he's a recluse now, so I don't think anything exists of him on the internet) showing us his portfolio of Newsweek/Time/etc covers and the style that he does is very reminiscent to this.

IMO, Blurr should be on the next issue of Time. Regardless of his relevance to anything inside.

It definitely reminds me of "golden age" art allright. I'm distinctly reminded of background posters from "The Incredibles"

REALLY nice work.

Oh yeah, those Incredibles posters were great. The guy that did those does a lot of that style. I'll have to look him up again.
