Description
After a short run on the "What-A-Cartoon! Show", Craig McCracken would, after developing an idea during his second year at CalArts, use his originally-named "Whoopass Girls" in a series that debuted on November 18, 1998 in would become one of the best known series on the network: The Powerpuff Girls.

This series was set in the city of Townsville, which was in some serious trouble. Crime runs rampant and no one was in a good frame of mind. To counter this Professor Utonium would use sugar, spice and everything nice to create the perfect little girl. In doing so, he accidently added an extra ingredient to the mixture: Chemical X. This resulted in three superpowered kindergarten-aged girls named Blossom (the leader who opens up), Bubbles (the cute and bubbly one) and Buttercup (it also began with a B). Together they would fight crime and various giant monsters while also dealing with typical little kid problems such as sibling rivalry, loose teeth, school attendance, hygiene, etc. The show ran from 1998 until March 2005.

This series was warmly received by fans and it appealed to more than just little girls in that it gained a plenty of male fans. Another reason was it lent itself to the idea of being a merchandising machine best; you could make lots of different types of merchandise about this series ranging from toys, books, soundtracks, board games, school supplies, comics, video games, etc. which was something you really couldn't do with shows like Cow and Chicken or Johnny Bravo.

The show was also adapted into an anime series called Powerpuff Girls Z and the series even got the big screen treatment for The Powerpuff Girls Movie which was released in 2002--I even remember it was in my local Tinseltown for only one weekend and then it disappeared (it didn't do so hot mainly because the series was in decline and it was up against Lilo and Stitch).

It was also the first Cartoon Cartoon series to received a remake which we got in 2016 (reception was very mixed--my friend can tell you more: www.deviantart.com/whompywhomp… )
