It's not that they have a tendency to drown people, it's more that after dark they're dangerous. They're just fine with Peter, while it's not mentioned, it can probably be assumed it's due to his nature and possibly just how long he's been there, compared to everyone else ^_^

Not really, it's just a thing that happens, the lagoon just isn't safe at night, and that's all. It probably has to do with the fact that night is scary to kids, and Barrie just played off that.
