These Python revolvers were produced from 1955 until 1999 when regular production ceased. Some Colt Custom shop Pythons were still shipped until 2005 when it was fully discontinued. Cost of production was a factor because the Python was the only modern revolver that was still fully hand fitted at the factory. Prominent firearms writers and collectors have stated the Python is probably the finest double action revolver ever produced....they are highly collectable today.

No need to worry.
I don't do guns.
Now, if we were talking
about hammers, swords or
boxing gloves...

Very nice gun.I also love The Python.Althogh I think you should put a set of nice Colt Rosewood grips. They would really make this gun stand out.

Thanks! It's my 'baby'...It probably would look better with the rosewood grips, but I bought the gun brand new back in the day and I'd rather keep it the way it was shipped from Colt. They are the factory installed Colt Pachmayr grips. I have the original box, packaging, manual and paperwork...even have the original orange plastic cylinder shipping ring for it. I plan on getting the factory letter for it to make it complete. It's not a safe queen as I can't help but taking it to the range for a stretch every so often...in fact I shot this photo after a range session as you can tell by the dirty chambers...

Next to the .500 it's small. I have a several handguns that are way more powerful than this Python, but this is the most beautifully balanced, and sweetest shooting revolver I ever had in my paws....and I bought it brand new back in the 1980's for under 700 bucks!

Let's put it this way....I'm so old, the first production .44 magnum handgun ever built is still about 2 months younger than me....
