Description
The #9 Coal Mine in the Anthracite region of the Lehigh Valley, Eastern Pennsylvania. The mine was opened in 1855 and finally closed to production in 1972. It is now open for tours which takes you 1600 feet vertically into the mine with a small work train where you disembark and walk another 600 feet deeper. I missed the last tour of the day, so I'll have to come back again sometime! Lansford, Carbon County Pennsylvania.
