Description
April 2008. Strasburg #31 in her Canadian National #7312 livery powers up Cherry Hill westbound on a fine early spring day. This locomotive is my personal favorite out of the Strasburg collection, maybe because she was the one that started it all for Strasburg's steam tourist program in 1960. She has been dismantled and out of service since 2009 and her major rebuild has been on hold. She is still on the active roster, so hopefully we will someday see her ride again. If they decide to sell her, she would be perfect for some of the shorter heritage railroads.

True, these types of locomotives don't ride like the those fitted with leading and/or trailing trucks, but these small locomotives were historically the back bone of short line railroading in north America and should be represented. Also, knowing the history of #31 being the genesis of Strasburg's modern steam program, a lot of the long time local railfans in this area feel it deserves a better disposition than it has now (along with SRR#4)...

Yep...it's nice to see the big main line horses, but to me these little locomotives are the embodiment of short line railroading!
