At 69Β° north where I live the midnight sun starts around 17-19th of may and ends around 19-21st of July, there is something to be said for seeing the sun be up after midnight, thats for sure.

Yes, I live in Nordreisa in Troms county, it is about 160km in a straight line from TromsΓΈ.

There are a ton of interesting places around TromsΓΈ to photograph, but it would be pointless to mention any if I do not know how far from the actual city you can go.
If it is something like a 20 or 50 mile radius my answer would be different than if you have a 200mile+ radius to work with.

Nah, my time will be limited after all so let's keep to the 20-50 miles radius. We'll have a car, but I doubt we'll travel further than that.

Then I recommend Ersfjordbotn, Fuktrikelv and the Cable car(fjellheisen) which is in TromsΓΈ, these are 3 places quite close, the last one is really close and gives you a great overview of TromsΓΈ.
The first two you have to drive to, but they are not too far away and there are amazing places all around those areas.
